Question about Vacuums

Brush head not spinning

I currently have the same problem. I noticed that the brush doesn't spin anymore when I have it on the "bare floor" setting. I tried messing with the black thing and the spring underneath but nothing. Did you get your problem resolved? If so, what did you do? I've had this vacuum for almost a year and it just started to happen.

I also notice that my brush on my vaccum is not spinning and I don't know why I don't use it that often and I keep it clean and well matained. I really need help this one because I really lhe love my vaccum.

Steps I took to try and fix the problem:

    1. Check the suction in the hose and where the brushes are

    2. I took the brush off to see if the motor was spinning the little silver stem

    3. I put the brush back on and notice the brush was not spinning and causing the belt to burn.

I have the same problem and also need assistance. Motor spins the belt but the brush won't turn and belt starts to burn.

Any advise of how to fix this will be appreciated.

Essentially I have the same problem with the brush, but without the accompanying burning smell.

Brush won't turn after cleaning out debris, belt is fine.

I have the Dyson Animal, the purple one. I frequently have to take the bottom apart where the brush is at to cut all the threads and hair off the brush. This last time it would not spin afterward. As far as I know there is no reset button, however, I did find out that it was switched to bare floors and THAT is WHY the brush was not spinning. Once I switched it back to carpet all was well. I have had this for years and never knew that the brush did not spin when it was on bare floor setting. Hope this helps!

Miele, Flamenco II. 2 probs. 1. the head brush is not turning when I put it on the floor. If I pick it up to look inside...the brush is spinning fast..I put it down on the floor...the head does not...

sounds like the belt is not on correctly on the beater brush or the belt is worned out now for the suction check filters or bags that need to be empty or clean

Brushes don't spin

Hello :
try this please : switch the carpet/bare floor dial back & forth 5 times, ending on carpet. Tilt the handle back as if to vacuum upright & lay the vacuum on its side so it is resting on the side opposite the carpet/bare floor dial. Turn the vacuum on.
or try this also if the above suggestion didn't work :
Maybe the belt is broke. You will have to replace the belt before the roller can spin. You must have run over something in the carpeting like string or whatever to have it break. Happens all the time. Get several replacement belts to keep as spares while you're at it as nothing is worse then having to vacuum and no spare belts.

The belt is intact but the aggitator doesn't spin anymore. Had a horrible rubber smell, went to change belt. Not the problem. Anyone know what could be wrong? Dirt Devil bagless w/dirt indicator

Even though your belt is intact it still could be worn. if you tilt the vac up (roller off the floor and the roller spins, replace the belt. on most vacuums the life of the belt for optimum performance should be 9- 12 months. If your vac has a carpet / bare floor selection, check to make sure it is in carpet mode.

The bottom brush that spins around is not moving anymore

The belt that drives it has probably broke,If you can remove the head on that model remove it and replace the belt . You make have to access the belt by removing the screws from the bottom of the power head.

Roller not spinning on hard floors

after 2 weeks it should be still under warranty. but my guess is you have hair etc wrapped around the brush tip vac so you can see brush(es) remove all string, hair etc... from around the brush area (may have to remove bottom to get all the hair etc... stuck around it. it also may have been jammed up pretty tight and continued use could snap the belt or burn out motor

The beater bar is not spinning.

The second belt is fitted to the clutch it goes from the motor to clutch.

Not sure how you checked clutch but didnt see 2 belts.

You will need to strip machine down removing brush roller & brush roll housing then you can get at the clutch.

Stand vacuum up and with it plugged in. Rotate knob between carpet and bare floor and back 5 times leaving it on carpet when finished. Rotate vacuum back from upright position and lay vacuum on the floor, rotating it onto its side. Turn vacuum on.
