well, can you see the Bios information and then the screen goes black when booting Windows? does it display "Display out of range"? Are you sure the PC is not your problem? (trying it on an other monitor if possible)

Yes you can change your video resolution to 1024x768. That will be in your display settings.
Also more suggestions.
Did you check the sleep mode or power off mode? What do you do to make it come back on? Sounds like it might be getting too hot and/or going bad. Try it on another machine and see what it does. Also try another video card because the video card could be going bad.

It means your PC video resolution setting is too high for this monitor to display.
You need to set the resolution to 1024 x 768 @60Hz. Bootup in safe mode (hit f8 during bootup) select VGA support, rest the resolution to 1024 x 768 @60Hz, reboot.

Set pixels too high. Now monitor won't display.

Native resolution: 1280 x 1024 @60Hz, That is what you need to set the PC video resolution to. Running XP? Boot up in safe mode (hit F8 while booting up), set the resolution to 640x 480, then reboot into normal mode, reset the resolution to 1280 x 1024 @60Hz.

Half of the screen is black - Samsung SynchMaster 710N

hello
I am a technician-informatic. I have repaired about 80 Lcd Samsung monitors with theese problems. I offer the repair manual.
Manual has been done with the experience of the repairing Samsung Lcd monitors. Manual was made by me and shows how to open monitor, how
to solve dark screen problem, how to check and replace capacitors, how to solve the problem non-optimal mode (without reprogramming MCU or
changing the main board) photo are included. 100% functional. The repair process is very simple 30-40min. (does not need a lot of
experience in electronics and expensive instruments) and is not expensive. With this manual you can solve problems by yourself and save
money.

"Not Optimum Mode 1280x1024 60Hz"
- The monitor turns on but turns off by itself, the LED blinks green.
- If you detach from the PC points to "control cable" the picture runs continuously in the vertical direction or presents while line , and
as soon as it is reconnected, the monitor goes off.
- The monitor does not turns on and dont dispaly anything, the LED blinks green-lit, if you detach from pc points to "control cable".
- The monitor turns on, works well some time, but after a window apiers "Not optimum mode. Mode recommended 1280X1024 60Hz"
- The monitor turns on, works well only with low resolution 800x600, when try to change a window that reads "Not optimum mode. Mode
recommended 1280X1024 60Hz"

the manual you can find on ebay (my ebay name is asnerejas123):

Cannot set my SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER 710V MONITOR RESOLUTION

When you can't change the screen resolution then most likely only the default VGA driver has been installed. You need to install the graphics driver of the video card that is installed in your computer.
To check which graphics driver is installed, click on Control Panel - Display - Settings - Advance - Adapter tab. If the graphics adapter is set for Standard VGA then the graphics driver was not installed.

Sync out Of range

Hello,
You need to get the monitor back into a range it can use and the best way is to go into SAFE mode on the pc put it back into 640X 480 and at 60 hz refresh rate. 37.9khz is way too high for the monitor!
It is best in the 60hz to 80 hz (if it can go that high!) start at 60 to begin with and it will work.
Good Luck!

17 in Widescreen Mag Innovision

Dear tfollis

Have you checked the HZ that you are using the monitor in windows ? If set at a very high level (for example 100hz) it may damage the monitor as it is not supporting it. (and maybe this explains the reason for the shutoff as a means to protect the circuitry)

17 inch TFT/LCD Widescreens monitors are ussualy optimal at 1280x800@60Hz.

Right click on Desktop-->Properties-->Settings-->Advanced-->Monitor--> At this point check the Monitor Refresh Frequency.

Check this first and if this does not solve it then we can proceed to more serious hardware troubleshooting.

HP 15 in. Flat panel Problem

plug in a different monitor temporarily, check your display settings (right click background, settings, advanced, monitor) and set refresh rate to 60hz. plug in this monitor again and see if that helps some monitors (lcd's especially) cannot handle beyond 60hz
