This is ALSO a common problem for people who don't shut down their computers properly - they get away with it 99 out of a 100 times - and then this problem.

Diagnosis: It sounds like the Boot Sector is damaged (if the Computer Hums and Lights up but nothing else happens) and the cure for this is a BootFix (using DOS) or a reinstall (but selecting Repair instead of Install).

This will be done under Warranty so don't mess with it.

Take it back to the store you bought it from, it will still be under warranty. If you do anything to your computer you will void the warranty and thereby be responsible for the cost of any repairs which might have otherwise been covered by the Warranty.

I want to re-load Vista and don't know how to access the recovery software

Reloading it means you can switch the computer on to Vista I imagine. If you have a recovery disc you can reload it. Most recovery disc can be purchased online at a very low price on Ebay everyday or else pay up the nose from the manufacturer

My Acer LT crashed and I need to reload Windows

No, as far as I know, Microsoft does not allow download of Vista. There are two ways:

1) Legal way: Call Microsoft or Acer and ask for a replacement CD (You may have to pay)

2) Illegal way: Download Vista from Internet

How do you reset forgotten parental control password?

Have you tried Windows Password Reset? No need to call a technician, no need to re-install anything,

and you certainly don't need to reformat. The program will enable you to reset the password to blank

with no -reformatting or installation. Do all the job for you automatically. It's worth a try.

How to reboot a computer?

I believe you mean to reload the OS that was installed in your computer. You did not mention the manufacturer of your computer. Ifs its HP you should have a factory created partition in your computer, you can boot the computer to the reformat partition by either using the F10 key(if you have XP) or F11(if you have vista) and follow the onscreen instructions. If you have a dell, you must have been provided the disc to reformat the computer, as you lost it you can call dell and order for the disc. However, if you have assembled your computer, you would need the OS disc in any case. Your would need to purchase one for the store.
