Can't get spring back onto front seal that holds the seal in place

Got the seal on, everything looks good, I try to put the spring on and it pulls the seal off. What is the trick or the tool I need to put the spring back in place.

Thanks!

I've got the top, back, front and control panel off. The weights are in the way, do they need to be removed first?

    Thanks again.

  • Karoooszka Apr 17, 2008

Thanks for everything. It turns out I had to remove the front portion of the seal too. I had the repair guy come over and that's the first thing he did. He still needed my help to get the spring on though. So either way I kind of needed a second pair of hands/eyes. I'm sorry that I didn't describe the front portion of the seal still being attached.

Its very hard to do with the front on ,
if you have the top and bottom off you can keep trying
but removing the control panel and front is easier just a bit longer to do.

I was trying to locate a manual for you only found this break down
    ftp://ftp.electrolux-na.com/ProdInfo_PDF/Webster/5995402517.pdf

it has 6 large carriage bolts that hold it, it is heavy and brittle.careful in moving and especially in screwing it back,
I thought you could get around it but that manual shows it to be in the front of the spring.
I was looking at this manual and it showed the front as one piece connected to the sides, which would be unusual. did you have to remove the front and sides together or is the manual incorrect.

From what I see in the design of that washer ,it wasn't meant to be worked on ;much. kinda like the new cars.

How do I replace the door seal on my ZWF1421W washing machine

Unplug the machine first! Open the door and look around th edge of the seal. You will see a plastic clip, where the two ends engage (like crocodile teeth), prise it out toward you with a flatbladed screwdriver. Unpeel the seal frm around the door. Hold the top of the seal inside where it is attached to the drum and lift it slightly, then just pull it off. You will see it is held on with a big circular spring. Getting the new seal on is a pain. It must lip onto the plastic outer drum and will take patience to feed it on, not to say sore fingers! Once on, fold it intowards the drum and then you have to stretch the spring back onto the seal...more sore fingers. Maybe someone can hold it while you feed it aound (make sure also you have fitted the seal the right way up!). Finally, attach the outer lip onto the lip of the machine and reattach the outer plastic clip. Good luck!!!!!!!!

Kenmore door to tub spring has come off

If you are talking about the inner spring that holds the door bellow to the tub, it's going to require two hands to get the spring to go back in the groove. You will need to carefully remove the bellow from the front opening of the door, first. On the 417 models, such as yours, the bellow is usually glued in place aorund the door frame and held in place by a spring to the tub. Use a putty knife to carefully peel the rubber form the washer facing. Once completed, you can glue it back in place with some appliance adhesive. To get the spring back in the groove on the tub facing, you will need to start at the top and have someone hold it on place as you work your way around the the tub. It's a real bear to get back in at times. Let me know if this helps you. Please post back if you have questions.

Not a hard task if you coat rims with liquid detergent before trying to install new seal.
Using thumb go slowly around rim working seal all the way back.
Replacing main spring can be done by working bottom to top and then hold left side of spring in place while you pull right side in with long nose pliers.A couple of minutes difficult work and your 90% done.
Care is required so as not to puncture seal,
Main point is to ensure seal is fully seated before applying spring.
Having machine laid on its back makes the job so much easier.

This job took an hour and 30 minutes, the hour spent checking the internet first.
Good luck

Metal ring aroound rubber seal fell off.

Start with the spring at the bottom, work the retainer around until the seal starts to pull away from the washer. Now grip the loop that the spring attaches to on the side that isn't in place and open the retainer. Push the retainer in place and release the spring.
