During this time of defrost you manually advanced into, Did the heater turn off them self? If they did the defrost thermostat does work, if the heaters stayed on the entire time (1hr) than the thermostat needs to be replaced as well as the timer. The thermostat is a cut off device to prevent the over heating of the freezer and liner (safety device). Think of a defrost timer as an egg timer, this timer runs regardless of function just advances like a clock. The thermostat turns off the heaters when they reach a temp rather then time. I hope this answered your question, good luck
That white box is housing a timer and an overload protector. That orange dot isn't a button, it is the center shaft on the timer. If the timer is running it should be turning.
Simplest thing to check is the thermostat.
Unplug fridge
Open fridge door.
Thermostat is connected to the temperature dial.
Remove the one screw about 2 inches behind the temp dial.
Pull down that plastic cover
Thermostat has a black, brown, and green wire.
Disconnect black & brown, and connect them together. This bypasses the thermostat.
Plug in the fridge. If the compressor turns on the problem is the thermostat
I took mine out and sprayed it with electrical parts cleaner (can get it at an auto supply store). Don't know if it is fixed for good yet.
If you want a new one, I found it at repairclinic.
Repairclinic item #1550645. Manufacturer number 502407000304. In the picture you can see the number WPF5E, which is what I see on the one in my fridge. Price $38.15

Your refrigerator has a defrost timer located near the floor and behind the kick plate. Remove the kick plate grill andturn the timer slowly clockwise until refrigerator compressor stops running. Leave it there for about 30 minutes or until refrigerator restarts. During this time the refrigerator should be in the defrost cycle. Open the freezer and you will possibly hear a crackling noise or the noise of water sizzling as it drips from the evaporator to the defrost heater. If your refrigerator does not restart after this time then turn the timer again slowly until the compressor restarts. If you do this then the timer will need replaced If no defrost takes place during this time then we need to move to the rear of the freezer and unplug the refrigerator and do some test on the defrost heater. Let me know how this worked out for you. The part number for your defrost timer is 10530703
Thanks, Sea Breeze
Is the fridge side working? If not try turning the defrost timer dial until it clicks. If it now goes you need to test the defrost circuit as there's still a fault but it'll go for 12 hours untill it trys to do another D'frost. If this doesn't work try bypassing the thermostat. cheers
wel there are 2 thermostats in this unit, a defrost thermostat(very common to go bad) but would mainly affect refig sect and the freezer only slightly, the other is a cold control thermo affecting both freezer and refrig, if this goes bad you get NO cooling, looking at the diagram for the refrig it has a defrost timer under the righthand side of the kickplate, i would try advancing the timer, with a screw driver you can manual turn the plastic gear on the timer( i believe on yours its problaby a pink knob. its possible that the timer has gone bad and the unit is stuck in a defrost mode, try turning it ever so slightly, youll hear it "clicking" as you do , it should "snap" into arun mode and everthy kick on for it is stuck in defrost(worth a try anyway)
Locate the defrost timer and rotate the dial a small amount clockwise. If the compressor starts the timer should be replaced. If the compressor does not start check the temperature control. It may be bad, if it is bad try jumpering the thermostat wires. If it starts and runs the thermostat is bad. Replace the thermostat.
