If you cannot find any paper but the printer is still displaying a jam, then it is most likely a paper late jam check the pick-up roller and if it is smooth, time to replace it. Other wise, you will need a tech to clean out the paper path and make sure there are no scraps.
There is pieces of paper stock on the sensor, when the paper jam happen after pulling out the paper did you get the whole page of paper of the paper have missing pieces? open the paper guide, turn off and on the printer and observe the unusual objects in the roller, this error is caused by objects in the sensor.
When a paper jam occurs during printing for some reason, the printer
beeps, displaying the message <PAPER JAM> in the display. When
a paper jam occurs, remove the jammed paper using the following
procedure, and then resume the job. If the message that indicates the
paper jam does not disappear even after removing the jammed paper
following the procedure, there is a possibility that torn pieces of
paper are still left inside the printer. Inspect each part of the
printer again, and completely remove all pieces of jammed paper.
I work in a shop repairing these printers and have had a large number with the same fault - displaying E-3 with no jam in the paper path. This is caused by a broken part in the paper feed mechanism that pevents the printer from taking the paper. The part located right at the bottom of the printer looks like two white gears connected together with a central spring. At present I am trying to find a supplier of the spare parts - will check back.
