Hi: I am getting ready to replace my computer. Can you give me instructions for rebooting my modem and Netgear wireless router, please? Thanks.

Really, there's nothing in the router that you'll need to update.

If you use an Ethernet cable to connect your new computer to the router, the computer will just "connect", automatically, to the router.

If your new computer has a wireless adapter, you'll have to enter the SSID and password that you have already configured into the router.

Sony Vaio PCV-RZ14G and XP with ethernet

You can always try a reset of the router (unplug the router for 15 seconds, and give it a moment to reboot. If that doesn't fix the problem, you might want to restart the computer afterwards as well (following the reboot of the router.

If neither of these work, you might have to call your internet provider and they can clear up any issues they might be having.

We have BT broadband. When we occasionally have to reset the router, everything except the 2 Dell Dimension 5150 desktops works via wireless. They refuse to reconnect. All the other Desktops / laptops work...

Not sure exactly what your hardware setup is, but I would reboot the broadband router, then reboot the wireless router. Everything should come up clean, but give it at least 5 min. To help connect after reboots, you can choose "repair" from the wireless icon in the system tray (XP?) or renew your IP address. Start --> Run... and type ipconfig /renew

Hope this helps!
If so, please leave a rating!

My belkin f5d8236-4 v1 router wireless light has gone off

This router has a overheat problem. this will cause the router to reboot or lock up. I cut a hole on the top and bottom of the router and placed heat syncs on the processor and switch chipset. Other than doing that you have little other options.

My Belkin 4 port router has the same IP as my Modem so my router will not detect my DSL connection. Ive asked Belkin for help but all they send me is gobblygoop!

Hi!
I'm sorry to hear that Belkin did not help you with your problem. Let me help you with your concern instead.

Here's what we need to do:

Start by resetting the router to factory default - you just need to press and hold the rest button on the router for about 30 seconds (with the power on).

1.) Disconnect the Belkin router from your modem , connect a PC to the router (use the LAN port - either port 1 to 4).

2.) Open Internet browser - clear the address bar and type in http://192.168.2.1 , press enter. It will ask you for a password , do not type anything just press Submit. You should be able to access the router's web interface.

The router's web interface should like this (depending on the model #):

92853d1.jpg

3.) Go to LAN settings. Change the router's IP address to 10.10.10.1 (this will be the new IP address of your router) . Apply the changes. Once youapply the changes, you can access the router using the new IP - http://10.10.10.1.

4.) Reconnect your modem - router and computers. Reboot device by switching off the modem , router and PC.

5.) Power up the modem first. Wait for about 2 minutes, power up the router and restart your PC.

The steps I gave is applicable if your modem is not on bridge mode. If your modem is on bridge mode (meaning it requires a username and password from your ISP) - access again the router by going to http://10.10.10.1 and do the following:

Click Internet WAN > Connection Type and select PPPOE. Type the username and password from your ISP. Apply the settings. Reboot the modem and router.

I hope that helps.

Good luck and have a nice day!

My internet cuts out all the time when I have d-link wired router, even after a reboot to the unit, works for a short time then disconnects

Does it depend on the socket you use or the router configuration at all? Your NIC or the D-Link can have bad ports; you might have wacky drivers or firewall software around; the D-Link might have scrambled config files you should reset rather than rebooting. Happy hunting.

You said: "If you unplug the cable modem it takes a very long time to reboot.." I think you are reffering to the computer, correct?
What O.S. are U running?
PC?
MAC?
Linux?
What make/brand of router is?
If is a PC and takes long time to reboot, than U have a O.S. problem.

How to reboot my netgear router

To reset your wireless router or router you have to insert a pin on the hole "reset" located at the back of your unit during a couple of minutes.

My computer keeps rebooting want allow me to go into safe mode only recovery. However upon restart it constantly reboots.

One problem can be that the router and net is on while you turn on your computer, so turn off the internet and router. Another problem is that its an annoying virus that forces the computer to restart itself.

I am trying to hook up my wireless router at a family members home, and it wont connect to the internet.

If you have settings from your home on the routher you need to RESET IT TO FACTORY. You need to REBOOT ALL the PC's in the house on that router as well to release the IP it currently has and renew with the new router. Also reboot the roter and the cable modem so it can issue a new IP to the router.
( There should be a small reset hole on the router that you can use a paper clip to reset it.)
You also need to make sure that if they have a cable modem that the router is compatible with the modem. They can call their provider for that info.
