Pushed reset button when I shouldn't have - now doesn't recognize wireless
I fixed the first problem with your assistance. Now as I read my book (of course, after the fact), I see that by pushing the reset button on the router, I have reset it to factory settings. I am able to ping the IP. I can't get farther with the wizard as I don't have the user name/password. Admin/admin as the manual says doesn't work. Any idea how to reset this?

The RESET button is for resetting the wireless section of the router and does not effect the Internet connection. It looks like the wireless access is faulty especially when you cannot reset and configure the wireless settings. Try powering off the Netgear for 10 mins the connect the power again. If you still cannot RESET the Netgear then it is faulty and you need a new wireless router.
Since the nook is wireless, I don't understand what the problem is. Doesn't your nook make a wireless connection? Does it recognize any of the other wireless signals in your area? If it doesn't recognize any wireless signals, then the problem is in your nook and not from your router. Try going by a Barnes and Nobel book store and see if it will log onto theirs. And most Barnes and Nobles have people trained on Nook troubleshooting.
The LAN lights will only turn on once you have an Ethernet cable connected to it and the other end of the cable is connected to a working computer.
If you already have a computer connected to the Ethernet port of the router via an Ethernet cable and the lights are still off. Check if the computer you have connected recognizes a network via LAN.
If the lights on the router are still off and the computer doesn't recognize a network then that means that the port for the ethernet of your Router is bad and sadly there's no way of getting that fixed but to have the router replaced.
Otherwise if the lights are off and the computer recognizes the Network and lets you connect to the internet or other computers on the same network then its just the LED of the LAN light that's broken and I think you can live with that.
Hope this helps!

Try hitting the tiny reset button in the back; it is very small and you will probably need a pencil or paper clip to press it. This SHOULD reset the password, but if this doesn't fix it, you will have to call your ISP(Internet service provider) and they can fix it for you.
If unplugging the power and leaving it off for a minute or two doesn't fix your problem you can reset it to the factory default by using a pen to push the reset button on the back. Factory defaults are on the bottom of the router. You will have to change all your settings back to the way they were though.
You need to follow the following steps- Access your wireless router: In most cases you should be able to access your router by simply typing 192.168.0.1 IP address into your browser?s address bar. In case it doesn?t work for you then type the Default gateway in the address bar of your browser. Secure your wireless network setup: Once you?re logged in to your router, go to the wireless tab and from there to security. Next, set the Authentication Type to WPA and enter the KEY (the new password for your wireless access). Save: Look for the ?Save? (or ?Apply?) option to save the changes Check: To check if you have done everything correctly, go to the Network Connections and scan for wireless networks. Your wireless network should appear as ?security-enabled wireless network (WPA)?.
