Cant get the burners to stay lite.

We thought it was the regulater, but we replaced it and the burners still wont light! Only one burner lights up, and when we turn the other ones on, they all turn off!

I am only able to light 2 at a time as soon as I try to light a third they all shut off and no gas is going anywhere.

    Thanks

I have the EXACT same problem with my p3 ...really week gas/flame on one side and if you turn on botht eh flame is so weak they just blow out. I replaced the venturi tubes - cleaned the whole grill and had the gas station double check the propane tank. Everything checked out ok. I also tried the excercise of 'resetting the regulator' by taking the gas tank off and opening the burners to high whihc supposedly works. I am so frustrated.

The only thing I haven't done is replace the regulator...but it sounds like you treid that.

Have the same problem on a five-burner. Called Charbroil and their fix worked for one lighting of the grill (disconnect grill from gas for 3-5 minutes). Now the problem is back and their fix doesn't work any more. Sounds like a design problem of some sort...

Uuggh...I've had the same problems as described here -on our 5-burner elite. Gas wouldn't stay lit, cleaned the entire thing, worked once, then wouldn't work, then it wouldn't light at all. I called barbeques galore and they said I could either get service for $85 (?/hour) and parts or suggested I buy a new regulator, which we just did today. NOW we can't access the bolt to change it on our 2yr old model (new ones are accessible from the rear) and it looks like from what I read here, this regulator isn't even the solution. :(

Same problem, has anyone fixed this?

  • Anonymous Jun 16, 2008

I have a jenn-air 5 burner grille and have the same problem. I can only light two burners at a time. right side or left side. when i try to light the 3rd burner the burners shut down. It does not seam to be clogged lines because one side works or the other side works.

Here is a few Ideas:

Burners will not light:
1.Gas injector not inserted in venturi tubes
2.Clogged gas injector
3.Obstruction in gas line.
4.Spider webs in venturi tubes.
5.Misalignment of collector box and burner
6.Out of gas
7.Dead battery

Spiders like to create little hidey webs in the tubes of propane grills and stoves.

Take it apart as much as you can and blow compressed air through all of the holes and apertures. You can either take it to the gas station and us the $.25 air machine or buy a can of compressed air at your computer store.

I have a coleman backhouse side solution grill. this grill is 3 years old. it has 3 burners and a deep fry on the left side. I can not get the burners to stay lit. I have removed the burners and blown air through them. I think it may be the valve, but when going on the internet i can not find any replacement parts for this grill. any help would be appreciated. email attylantz@yahoo.com thanks

Cant get my grill to stay lite or get hot

To solve this problem, first be sure you have adequate gas in the tank. If that checks out OK, do the following:

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank.

2. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank.

3. Open the tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow).

4. Once the tank valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the tank first and set the burner
control knob on HIGH. Does the flame height look correct for being set on HIGH? If so, light
the remaining burners the same way. Do all the burner flames look correct? If so, you solved
the problem. Remember, to always open the tank valve Very, Very Slowly.

If that didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's Hose/Regulator Assembly. It runs about $30.00 at any home center or hardware store that sells grills & accessories. If you replace it, turn the tank valve ON Very, Very Slowly.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling!! Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Have a home depot ducane 5 burner. just replaced burner tubes. have never used the rotisserie burner on it before. it lights but won't stay lite after releasing knob...any suggestions? Thanks

Infrared burners requite that the gas control knob be held in for 2 minutes or so, to allow the thermocouple on the infrared burner to heat up completely. If it's windy were you are, the wind can blow the burner out, while trying to light it. That's why it has a thermocouple on it, to stop the gas if the burner goes out. All cooking on the rotisserie is doon with the lid/hood closed, at temperatures around 250 degrees F. Once the infrared burner turns bright red, release the control knob.

Hope this helped you to get it lit. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Grill's fire won't stay lit

Try banging on the tubes feeding the burners with a heavy pair of vice grips or a hammer. It usually shakes the carbon loose to allow for free flow of gas.

Grill wont stay lit

These new tanks have a safety device installed in them . If you open the valve quickly or tip the jug the damn thang won't work. Take the tank loose, open all the grill valves and close all valves. Reconnect the tank and SLOWLY open the valve a hair. Light the burners. No need to open the valve all the way. if you do the dumb safety will plug the jug.

Glas flow will almost shut down once i turn on the second burner

hi my name is mark, let me see if i understand your problem. you light the 1st burner and get a good flame. you light the 2nd burner with the 1st burner lite and it starves both burners of gas. if this grill is a lp grill and you have propane in the tank. the regulater is the problem.

Regulator freezing up

did you replace the regulater with a manufatures replacement for you grill or did you use an after market one? the reason i ask is because propane is very cold in liquid form and if your regulater allows more of the liguid to go to your burners than it should the moisture in the air will contact the outside of your regulater and freeze up on it. excessive propane would not change the color of the flame, however the i would check the burners to make sure that there are no blocked holes this would cause this to happen as well you are still safe to use the grill but cleaning the burners is a good idea. also there is a rating on the regulater make sure it matches the old one you replaced it with........good luck
