1. You will need to provide some more information about your unit.
a. the model number
b. the operating system you are using
c. are you connected to the router via a Ethernet cable on another computer?
d. Have you check with your ISP as to the status of the your connection.
e. Have you check the status of the router ( in the wireless settings) to see if the PC unit is getting a signal.
f. What is the wireless signal strength of the PC unit / Is it showing in the status bar of the Windows screen you are using.
g. Have you try to repair the connection via the PC you are connecting with wirelessly with. This can be done in the wireless connection icon in the task bar in Windows

Tick Enable Wireless Access Point
Tick Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID, give it a name
Under security options, Tick none
Hit apply and exit
Setup your laptop up with no security to start with, the laptop
Should now see the Netgear SSID name you made.
After this find out your laptops MAC address, log back onto the
Netgear unit, add the MAC address to the allowed list, hit apply
And exit, now only your laptop will be able to get a wireless connection.

Wireless connection of netgear wireless router for compaq laptop

When you look on the box that the router came in, you have to look to see what Operating Systems it is compatible with. In many cases, routers will not be compatible with vista. I have a Linksys WRT300N, and it works great with Vista.Hope this helps.

Try these:

1. Go to CONTROL PANEL > MANAGE WIRELESS NETWORKS
2. Remove all the preferred networks
3. Restart your laptop
4. Reconnect to your network
