I have an HP W1907 that turns on for a few seconds and then goes black. I have taken it apart and have found no obvious issues with the exception of 1 bulging capacitor in what appears to be the inverter...

the monitor is bad, how to fix a monitor that is bad. right?
a bad CAP , shorts, and when those do that the overload
the DC bus regulator.
there is no schematics, for it, why bother, get a new monitor
or buy used PCB card for it on ebay, or replace the bad cap. and see what happens, whats to lose but $1 for a cap.
ever been to no lack of caps there. never.
if this PCB was made in the era of bad caps, guess what, more are bad.. (the dry out, split, short, explode , rupture or leak and short) all of them did that then. (wiki bad cap era, read when and why)

1999 to 2000 is the (worst) imo

Hello,Storm-ic I have the same problem you had with the same kind of monitor. (HP 1955,screen going black, showing a picture 1/10 of a second.) I just would like to know how you " resoldered...

First, download the disassembly instructions fro HP here first:
Second, get yourself good 40w solering Iron and solder.
This monitor is made by BENQ which also makse the monitor for Dell.

Inspect the DC filter caps on the Pwr/Inverter board, and solder joint at the AC inlet and the rest of the board.

Microtek 715c power supply requirements. I found this monitor by the curb and gave it a 17.5 vdc switched power supply. It works quite well except the power light goes blank while asleep and acts like... just says it requires anywhere from 110-240 volts AC (which isn't very specific) and uses 48 watts. I don't see anywhere online that lists the DC power output... sorry. If you could get a manual for it that might help.

HP VS19e Monitor - no power

There are three (3) capacitors that go bad on the power supply board. MAKE magazine's Instructable site has a good guide on replacing them. I have a june 07 and july 07 date monitors. they were different inside!! identical outside, however. The bulged,'bad' components were 1000uf 10v cap's, I put in radio shack 272-1032 1000uf 35wvdc. My monitors? BOTH were bought for $35 on craigslist, $10.35 in parts. ???BusinFLA -at- hotma*l dot com.....worked for me!

Bright, thin line, in the middle of the screen, then...

1. I turn on the monitor, I hear a 'cracklin' sound
Reply: In a CRT Monitor there is a component called EHT which generates High voltage which is connected to the anode of the CRT, If there is any leakage due to moisture can cause this crackiling sound, You need to clean this high tension wire or replace the EHT ( CAUTION : BE AWARE OF HIGH VOLTAGES )

2. The screen only shows a bright, thin line.
Reply: The vertical Drive section of the monitor is faulty.
