I'm not sure what your inistal problem is, BUT: it sounds as if you do not have a sound card, and need to reinstall the sound card. So: First: go to the Microsoft XP website and install ALL updates. If the sound worked before, you may need to reinstall some updates.
Second: Go to My Computer icon, click on Properties, and go to Device Manager. Find the sound card, and make sure it is enabled. If it says device driver not found, then--->
Third: Go to the manufacturer's website, and download the install ofyour sound driver. Look up what your sound card manufacturer is and go to their website. It should tell you in the Device Manager.
