SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SV434 "Protect" light

The protect mode is a built in safety message, indicating that theres a fault somewhere with-in the unit, and it wont let the unit come on fully or more damage will occour. This unit is a solid state device, and you should not attempt to use it or open it or try any self repair as it will cause more damage. If this unit is more then a few years old , it might just be the time to start looking around at all the back to school sales on electronics, as to have this unit serviced will cost an estimate fee as well as parts and labor. If you want to invest a few bucks into this machince , then go for it, but its most likly will cost 1/2 or more then the cost of the entire unit did when it was new to have it repaired. It is up to you. Good Luck

SOURCE: I have an Onkyo tx-sv434

Could you please confirm you have your system set to Speakers A and that the Surround Mode is set to Dolby Pro Logic?

Have you set the individual speaker volumes during the Test Mode?

Finally could you also please confirm the Model No for your DVR to confirm that this is giving the Dolby Pro Logic Output you require.

I have a problem with my amp everytime I switch it on, it goes to protect mode. Even without connecting the speakers. What could be the problem?

hello the output transistor could have blown. this can happen if you play your receiver with high volume all the time the transistor heats up causing it to blow there are other components you can check first like any glass type fuses see if any have blown if ok check the capacitor see if any have swelled up or poped hope it helps

Onkyo tx-ds787 6.1 channel receiver won't turn on? no light nothing!

Check the fuse inside the unit. If there is no power lights, the power supply may be bad - the fuse is located in the power supply. Check you wall outlet, too.

slow blow (aka time delay) fuses are used in motor circuits. Electronic devices use normal or fast blow fuses

Receiver does not power on. standby not on either. receiver is the onkyo tx-sr501

The standby light should be on. If it is not, then check the main fuse. WIth the unit unplugged, remmove hte top cover and check the fuse by the line cord. If that is ok, then you will need to check the primary winding on the standby transformer. That transformer has a thermal fuse internally located and that sometimes gets blown due to a power surge. If you do not have the equipment to test this, get a detailed estimate from a local servicer. The standby transformer usually costs arounf $25 or so.
