No Graphics

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

Lenovo 3000 n100 lcd display works but only less than a minute before display goes black. Connect an external monitor and it works fine.

possible problem is your led light on your LCD or its Flex. you might need to have it replaced. Try to check your LCD when it turns black under the light if you can see a dark image of your desktop. If you can see your desktop then the backlight has a problem. If there is no display, your LCD needs to be replaced.

Dark blue ink splodge on my computer screen

Check the warranty - I recently got an acer lcd from a friend (purchased as package deal like a eMachine), he bought a new one, and found it was still under warranty.
Try "Auto Reset" on the monitor setup panel, on monitor - not on computer.
I forgot the proper name but one of the light emitting diodes might have gone bad which causes lines, streaks and blobs (same as on laptop screens).

Screen does not work any more. Got a new LCD but still no picture.

you said that you want a display card. first no extra card can be added to the laptop. that is not possible. and second if your lcd is not working then the inverter card might be gone. it is a small card which converts dc to high voltage ac so that the screen can be back lit and run. if this has gone it can be replaced and you can again restore ur screen.

you can check the working of the graphic card of you laptop by connecting external monitor. if that also not working then you need to replace ur motherboard. these are the solutions.

so in order to make sure your motherboard is ok. just connect an external monitor. and you cannot upgrade your graphic card as it is final in laptop.no upgrades for that.

Bottom half of laptop is dark with vertical lines

Generally, what you describe is a failure of the LCD screen.

Things you can try:

1. Reseat the LCD video connection to the video card.
2. Connect an external monitor see if the issue occurs externally (If so the video card is failing)

If video works normally externally, then LCD replacement is warranted

If the system is in warranty, contact technical support from the manufacturer.

My emachines monitor has no picture, hard drive is functioning properly. Monitor is black

if you do not get a screen with a LCD monitor its likely you have a inverter problem or BACKLIGHT problem. you might need to replace the LCD backlight or replace the monitor on the desktop.
check to see if the laptop can get a picture by plugging in a monitor to it, im sure theres a connection for external monitor.

theres also a FN (function key) command to switch from lcd to external monitor. always test before commiting to replacing a monitor.

The desktop, you might want to test another monitor on the desktop just to be sure the monitor is gone or dead. if you see on the monitor a OSD saying "No power or No Signal" or you can pull up the OSD(on screen display menu). then the monitor is not dead.

might be the computer even though the computer powers up doesnt always mean the computer is working.

i would check the motherboard for blown capacitors or funky smelling(burnt plastic)aroma. Make sure the computer is off before checking.

thanks
