I need to download windows xp to install on my 2nd computer

You cannot download Windows XP unfortunately. You may be able to purchase a copy on Ebay. You will need your own installation key which should be on a sticker attached to your PC.

Copy WIndows XP from one hard drive to another

Hi,

Why are wanting to clone your hard drive to another on when all you need to do is install Windows 7 directly onto the new hard drive?
Are you wanting to save all your settings and data before you install Win 7 over the top of XP?

I can boot up when i put in my new hard drive

New hard drives have to be formatted and an operating system installed to be able to boot up.

The operating system depends on what you want to put on there

As you are posting in the XP HOME section I would suggest you set your bios to boot from CD
Place the XP HOME CD in the drive and boot up
It will say press any key to boot from CD DO SO !

Follow the on screen instructions until setup is complete and then start to install the drivers you need and activate XP

Is it find the product key from windows xp cd?

If the hard drive is still alive, you can use a Key generator or "Key gen" on the old hard drive, it will search for all installed versions of windows and give the key that it was registered to. Magic Jellybean key finder is a great free program.

I have the Windows 98 disk not have lost the key codes, I am trying to reinstall this onto a new hard drive with no operating system so I can then upgrade to windows xp, help anyone?

You don't need a windows 98 disk to install XP. It will load directly from your Cd drive. You have to set the bios to be the first boot disk. It is much easier to install XP on an empty drive than to upgrade.

Help

If your machine should have the XP key on a tag on it. If you no longer have the tag, the restore CD that came with the machine often (but not always) will re-install without a key. On the other hand, if you have a working installation and need to recover your current key, you can get a FREE utility to do that from:
