First you need to find a Windows wired or wireless device already connected to the network in order to find out the required settings

Windows XP
1. Click start --> (sometimes settings) --> Control Panel --> Network Connections
2. Double click on the active connection which will say connected underneath
3. Click Support
4. Click Details
5. Now the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS and Alternate DNS which are displayed should be noted.

Windows Vista
1. Click Start --> Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center
2. Click on "View Status" to the right of your connection
4. Click Details
5. Now the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS and Alternate DNS which are displayed should be noted.

Set these values under "manual settings" in the PS3 but add 1 to the last number for the IP Address as this has to be unique on your network

SOURCE: Internet connection failed but IP address obtained.

Please shut down power to your router, modem, and PS3.

Then restart them in the order of :

Modem, Router, PS3.

Please leave them unpowered for several minutes.

This could be the source of your problem, and resetting is the first step to fixing!

SOURCE: cant find ip address on ps3

If you are directly wired to your modem (not router), you will have to reboot your modem each time you switch between computer and console. When the modem boots up, it leases an IP address to the MAC Address of the connected device. Each device has a unique MAC Address. If the MAC Address does not match to the one it leased an IP to, it won't allow access to the internet.

You can get past this by "cloning" the MAC Address of your computer to your console.

To get the MAC Address (Physical Address) of your computer:
XP: Open the start menu, click "run" and type "cmd" then hit enter. A black screen with white writing should have opened. Type in "inconfig/all" and hit enter. Look for the line that says "physical address". That is your MAC Address.

Vista: Open the start menu, in the search bar type in "cmd" and hit enter. A black screen with white writing should have opened. Type in "inconfig/all" and hit enter. Look for the line that says "physical address". That is your MAC Address.

Now get into the network configurations on your console, look for an option of MAC Address cloning. Input the MAC Address of your computer, save and reboot.

Hope this helps.

On my ps3 wireless connection its says failed.. IP address timed out.. and wont let me online.. Any help??

Unplug your wireless router and your modem and after about 30 seconds plug them both back in. Wait about a minute for the devices to reinitialize and try to go back online.

Internet connection failed but IP address obtained.

Sounds like a problem with the firmware in your router. Connect
your laptop directly to one of the four ports with a cat 5 cable. Turn of your wireless adapter and connect through the cable.
Once your web browser is open, go to the URL http://192.168.1.1/. This will take you to a pop up box which asks you to enter a user name and password. The default user name is admin and the default password is admin or password. From there You will be all the settings you can control. You are looking for the one to go on line and download the current firmware update. This will most likely solve your problem. If your router was working fine before do not tamper with any of the other options. If this does not clear up your problem you will probably need a new router. You can also try Pushing the tiny reset button on the back and running the setup disk that came with your router. If this fails you definitely need a new router.
I hope this helps you. If you need more help feel free to contact me.

Cant connect to wireless network on my ps3

Hello,
First off you have a wireless router hooked up to your ISP correct.
anually set a static IP for your wireless connection (When going through the network setup in Network Settings --> Internet Connection Settings (wireless), choose Custom instead of Easy when the page asking for either appears).
Set the IP address to something outside your DHCP range. e.g. 192.168.0.5 (for dlink router) or 192.168.1.5 (Linksys router)Default gateway should be the IP of your router. For dlink, this should be 192.168.0.1 and Linksys should be 192.168.1.1DNS Server can be the same as your default gateway, mentioned above.
Subnet Mask should be 255.255.255.0.If you're using some sort of encryption (WEP, WAP, etc), set it in there as well when it asks to do so.
And that should get you going. I actually haven't done this on the ps3, but its my info from experience with regular pc to pc networking.
Also If you haven't tried this already, change the wireless channel from 6, to 1 or 11 in your router and wireless consoles.
If all else fails, try this http://www.clanbluntforce.com/forum/index.php?topic=864.0

Ps3 help

the ps3 has a built in wireless modem. if you do not have a router, you might not be able to connect your ps3 and laptop at the same time.

turn everything off.

now in this order, turn on your ps3 and connect to your wireless verizon modem after it comes back on. do not turn your laptop on, since your modem probably will not give out two dynamic addresses. does the ps3 work now?

I try to connect my ps3 to the internet wirelessly and have probs

Hmm, try setting it closer to your router. Ya know the box that has the wireless internet in it. It might not be getting a strong enough connection.

Cant connect

do you have DHCP enabled on your wireless access point / router?

If not you'll need to find somewhere to either enable it, or manual set your ip for the PS3

PS3 wireless internet problems

It sounds like a defective wireless antenna. Connect your PS3 via a long network cable and see if you can get online. If you can, the problem is a defective antenna.

Assuming you purchased the PS3 from a store and have the reciept, you should be able to get it swapped or fixed via warranty.

Good luck and take care,
Chimpster

No internet ?

When you connect your ps3 with a ethernet cord you need to restart your ps3 when its connected. If its wireless you may need to check your router settings.
