When you wired the radio, did you wire it to the switched 12 v wire or the constant(hot) 12 v wire? because the switched wired makes the radio turn off when you turn the key off, the contant 12 volt is to keep your clock on, you might want to check a wiring diagram to see that you did it correctly, ive had that problem with radios ive installed

If you used a wire harness to connect with the factory setup, try running the power wire to your fusebox. Find a fuse that is only live when the car is running and insert the wire with the fuse.

Aftermarket stereo turns on but can't hear anything 1997 explorer

Did the truck have the premium sound system? If so, you will need to connect the blue remote wire to the blue remote wire on the harness. You may also need a special harness to bypass the factory amplifier.

It sounds like the keep alive wire has either become disconnected or it was never hooked up. In most cases it is a yellow cable on aftermarket car stereos

Car stereo help

There are some tests you can perform for checking the stereo. Yes, you are right, there is a yellow and red wire. Yellow constant power, red is switched throught the ignition. During the installation, you may have blown a fuse. A bigger fuse is not needed, stick with the same size if you find a bad fuse. Hook the red and yellow wire together for TESTING PURPOSES to one or the other of the hot wires in the vehicle. This will also test to see if you have a bad fuse. If the stereo powers up in one or the other power connections in the car and works, you have a blown fuse. I have seen some fuses be located under the hood of the car near the car battery. Hope this helps, Bob

Aftermarket stereo install

Was it working before?

I would hate to have you crack it open when maybe the ground wires arent hooked up right. Unless you have a scope go online and get the manual on wiring it to ensure you did it right.
