Question about Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

I just bought a refurbished Sharp AL-840 laser printer but the software CD that came with it was old and didn't support XP. I downloaded the correct driver but it's not a .exe file and I don't know how to install it. I'm about at my wit's end. Please, can you help me?

And how do I do that? When it comes to these sort of things I'm next to lost...

  • Beth06010 Apr 13, 2008

I don't see any with .inf, some have no extensions and others have .sd or .hl

Aha! I found the device manager and the wizard came up. (Finally!) Thank you.

Is it a "inf" file?

you can try installing it in device manager using only the device driver...

in device manager, click on the new device which is your printer and right click on it and wait for the wizard to appear to help you install the driver for your printer,

right click on My Computer on the desktop and youll see the device manager there...

    or...

go to control panel > system > hardware tab > device manager >

if youve plugged the printer in your computer, youll see here that its marked with a yellow exclamatory mark... right click on it and click update driver...

    ok

even if you dont see any .inf file there, one of those files there may be the driver for your printer...

so after updating driver in the device manager, locate the files that youve downloaded and try to install from there... hopefully your printer will be installed.

I want to install my AL-1530CS with my new HP Laptop 64-bit running Windows 7. Where do I get the correct driver?

There are NO Win 7 drivers, and I suspect there never will be. Sharp are NOT writing a Win 7 driver, for this "Old", according to Win 7, hardware. You may be able to install a, XP SP2 or Vista 64 bit driver, and setup in Compatibility Mode, however if you do,do this EVERY-TIME you Bootup you MUST press F8, and select to Disable "Digital Signature Checking" at bottom of list. You need to do that at install time too.

Printer drivers for Mac.

Goggle download program for Sharp AL-1540CS. This should take you to a site that will download the program for you. I recently got a new Vista computer and did this to hook up my old printer on it. It worked fine.
Good Luck
