How to reset Garmin StreetPilot 7200 GPS Receiver

First, make sure that the unit really does run off of +12V. Most Garmin units really run off of +5VDC and there is a charger/regulator that reduces the +12VDC to +5VDC. Look at the power cable and see what the output voltage is. Does the unit has a USB port?

Before each outdoor adventure or visit to a project site, they use ExpertGPS to back up the contents of their GPS, and then clear the GPS data memory. They can then download as much data as possible onto their GPS (leaving some room for GPS data collection out in the field). Try running and installing or reinstalling the latest update using the Garmin WebUpdater.
download the latest version of WebUpdater software
Usually this will resolve most issues.
Failing that, the GPS receiver is replaceable as per Garmin's $190 to repair.

There's more information there than you'll need but you can skip to the part on unlocking maps. I'd imagine the street pilot wouldn't be a whole lot different from the nuvi as they're both made by garmin.
