CD/DVD Drive will not read discs

The problem is most likely that you do not have a DVD reader installed in your PC. If you look on the front of you cd-rom it will say DVD if it can read DVD's. Most stores will not give you a refund for software that has already been opened. It is fairly easy and inexpensive to install a DVD reader in your PC, probably in the range of $30.00 to $60.00 depending on the brand you purchase. I would go ahead and purchase and install the DVD reader since more and more games and other software is now being put on DVD's.

Based on the one and only specs sheet I could find for this model of emachine, it does have a DVD-ROM drive. So in theory it can. Does the unit play DVD Movies? if yes then it should work, try rebooting and then putting the disc in again. I assume the disc is clean and scratch free as the game is new.

If the OS on your computer has ever been reinstalled, you may be missing the driver for the drive, in which case windows would treat it as a generic CD-ROM drive, and not be able to read DVDs, you can get the drivers for the drive from the emachines website if this is the case.

looks like you need to see if the disney disk is compatible with your Operating system
and update the drivers from your machine not just the dvd drive,normally if the new drive doesnt have software disk from new then there will be a download site of the manufacter.check your model and brand for support or the download site for your brand

first make sure that the drive is installed properly. I would advise you to install it from the manufacturer's site. Let me know if you need the installation files.

Also, it can help if you can let me know if it reads any other discs- like regular discs. Try several different types- burned cd and dvd discs, brand new discs, original discs etc.
If installing it doesn't help and the drive will not read any kinds of discs, you will have to return the laptop to the store where you bought it, or try to return it to the manufacturer, maybe they can replace the drive.

The most likely cause is a faulty DVD drive. Replacing the DVD drive is fairly simple.

No need to be hasty. Need to eliminate issues one by one. Is the pc brand new or pre-loved new to you. This is a big point, as you may not have the drivers on disc, and have to download some. Usually the most common error is that in transport with older pcs the dvd drive can become unnatched inside the tower, but if you can hear it spinning, some power must be getting through. Is the icon for the drive appearing in my computer? Check for yellow exclamation mark under driver list in control panel and post any error codes you see, this can help find a solution. (this is all located under hardware, under control panel) post back after you have tried this.

This can be due to the reason that the certain cd roms cannot be read by your drive. please insert and check other brand cd roms...if they run then the cd rom u r using cannot be read by ur Cd.dvdw DVD drive

check the region code of the dvd that u bought...if its not according to your country region code then the dvd would play only in laptops and pc dvd drives..u can contact the service station of philips and ask them to unlock ur dvd player so dat it becomes region free..i had the same issue with my dvd player

Is the CD drive display in my computer? yes

then clean up your CD/DVD rom for there is dust in it, specially on the lazer lens that let the rom read the CD/DVD.

If no, then; Fix some cable connection towards your CD/DVD rom for it was lessen.

If not fix the problem verify the disc if it is readble by your Rom. Please try another disc in your Rom.

if same happen, then maybe its time for a new CD/DVD ROM.

one last try:

try your new purcahse disc in another computer that is compatible with your disc.
