Question about Haier HTE18WAA Top Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Our hotpoint fridge ran continuously without keeping the main box cold. A serviceman corrected that by melting ice that had formed on part of the cold works at the back of the freezer. But it still runs continuously. Now I'm wondering if it will ice up again and fail to keep the main box cold. Do I just need a new thermostat? The timer and heaters were replaced just 13 months ago. BTW the fridge is 34 years old.

I would agree that this is a thermostat issue. I would also clean the condenser coils.

*** The following is for information only.***
* The controls are there but is probably covered with food or ice.
* Remove food and packages from freezer and store in cooler or refrigerator side of your Hot point.
* Inspect area for "parts" that may have fallen off. (non-food items)
* Unplug unit. Open freezer door and allow warm air to circulate and melt frost and ice.
* DO NOT use ice pick or metal devices to forcably remove ice. Let it melt naturraly.
* Use a fan to blow air into freezer (keep the refrigerator side closed)
* DO NOT use a hair drier as it may over pressure the refrigerant or melt plastic panels.
* Continue melting all ice. Note water may collect at bottom or on floor. Wipe excess.
* Take the time to clean and wipe down freezer box. You may find parts or ID plates as you clean.
* If you locate labels or controls then set the control to the middle (mid range).
* Continue defrosting till no excess water drains to bottom.
* Feel along walls and back for cold. Walls should be room temperature and dry to the touch.
* There was a large ice build up in the coil and fan area. The defrost removed the ice.
* Note; defrosting may take 2-4 hours depending on house temperature.
* If no "parts" were found. Then power up unit. It may take up to 2 mins for unit to cycle on.
* Close freezer and wait 15-30 mins. Check if getting cold.
* Once cold then refill freezer. DO Not overload freezer.
* Check after 24 hours. Freezer should be below 32f or 0c
* Normal freezer after 48 hours should be about 0-5f or -10c
* Higher temps after 36 hours indicate problem with unit.

Hotpoint fridge freezer ff200 tx displays error code A1?

These tempratures are pretty cold should be around 0 deg. but it sounds like you might have a bad defrost timer or defrost thermostat the frost should not come back if defrost system is working

Ice forms as large block not in cubes

Defrost thermostat is bad. Defrost element is staying on for too long raising up temperature causing ice to melt.

Leaking and fan stops then starts?

Don't know if this will help but our fridge was leaking and then I noticed there was ice at the bottom and it was clogging a drain hole so the water ran out on the floor in front of the fridge. I chipped out the ice, melted the drain hole and slightly raised the fridge temp so the ice would not re-form on the bottom and it worked. - no idea about the fan.

Fridge portion doesn't get cold

The defrost circuit is not working, there are usually 3 things that normally go bad, defrost timer, defrost heater, and thermal switch. Would have serviceman check it out as cooling fins on coils will cut you like a razor.

I keep getting water at the bottom of the fridge, under salad boxes on my Hotpoint fridge

Red light on for High Freezer Temperature Warning
or freezer not cooling, but fridge is and a lot of noise from compressor.
Also, fridge drain hole blocked, water in bottom of fridge.

This is a common fault in Hotpoint Fridge Freezers and can also happen if the door has been left open or has been a power cut.

1. Turn off fridge freezer, or at least turn down the freezer temp to minimum, though not ideal.
2. Open freezer door and remove all drawers.
3. Remove the back panel on the inside of the freezer. This is held in place with 4 screws, which might be 6mm hex head or star allen head. Pull the panel out.
4. Behind where the panel was, there is a cooling element for cooling, pipes, and below this a temperature sensor. If the fridge freezer is not switched off, then fold together a few layers of tinfoil and wrap around the sensor.
5. Use a hairdryer to slowly melt the ice. Melt it around areas where it appears to be hanging on, such as the corners of the cooling element or bolts, as well as any thin sections below the main block of ice around the cooling element, which will be supporting the main block. Use a plastic ice scraper to remove ice but not near pipes or sensor.
Warning: Be careful using electrics around water & melting ice & drips.
6. Below the cooling element, there is a drip channel & drain hole. If this hole is full of ice, pour a small amound of warm water down, leave for 10 seconds and pour a bit more until clear.
In the fridge, clear the drain hole in the same way.
Warning: Do not pour a lot of water down, as this water drains onto a tray above the hot compressor at the rear of the fridge freezer to be evaporated by the heat of the compressor and the tray will only hold a small amount.
7. When all ice is removed, dry all moisture. Put the shelves back. Close door. Turn on fridge freezer. Turn up the freezer temperature to your normal setting. Turn on fast freeze if available. After 1 hour, check with a thermometer. It should be cold enough after 1 or 2 hours.

Freezer will not keep foods frozen fridge will not keeep temp.

Sounds like a main control board problem keeping the freezer fan from working . If no air flow to the top of the freezer , the icemaker will stop working and the ice will begin to melt ( leaking from freezer ) . The coils will start to freeze up due to no air flow across them . If continued for a period of time , the cold air could return thru the return vent located in the bottom of the ref/freezer section and freeze the water tank in the refrig section , causing the no water thru dispensor .

Have a hotpoint rsf60 fridge/freezer,noticed over temp red light on, defrosted as ice buid up on top shelf of freezer.light still on red temp set at 3/4 ?

The red warning light will not go out?

1. Has the fridge freezer just been
installed? If so, this is normal and the
light will go out when the correct
temperature has been reached.

2. Has the fridge freezer been loaded
with a large quantity of food? If so,
the light will go out when the correct
temperature has been reached.

3. Have the doors been closed
properly?

Fridge/ Freezer not cold

My fridge started making a weird noise not too long ago. Now the fridge isn't cold and everything in the freezer is melting. The read out still says that everything is the right temp, but the melted ice tells me otherwise. Recently my daughter found out how to operate the buttons and has been pushing them a lot, but we change them quickly.

I would have the refrigerator / freezer checked out by a serv tech mainly because if it is a compressor, this would not be something that can be done by as customer, but it could be something internal like a fan or a fan motor that blows the cold air or a bad thermostat or sending unit – the weird noise is something internal that really should be check out by a serv tech before you lose everything as far as food, etc. – the refrigerator is a sealed unit and is hard for a customer to service unless they have serviced the unit before.

Hotpoint Mistral Frost Free Fridge freezer - fridge not getting cold

We have just had to call out an engineer to get our 1 1/2 year old Hotpoint Graphite Frost Free Fridge Freezer repaired. The fridge had almost entitely stopped cooling even when on high. I was amazed at how easily the problem was sorted. The engineer removed all the basktes from the freezer to access the screws on the inside backpanel of the freezer. Once this panel was removed it was clear that the so called Frost Free doesn't really mean what it says. The ice need to be melted with a bit of simple care. It is obvious that with a bit of care it is easliy a diy job BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND READ THE NEXT PART BEFORE YOU BEGIN TO REMOVE THE ICE> The ice forms around variouys pipes etc and he usecd a screwdriver to help release the ice quicker than waiting for it to defrost and he also used a simple hairdryer to help speed up the process. He had a ntowel and a basin to take care of the water. Next time I would have no problem doing this myself but I would need to leave it a little while to defrost and NOT USE A SCREWDRIVER as I am sure somehow I would puncture a pipe or the wall of the freezer itself and I am quite used to doing the odd bit of DIY. On a difficulkty scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being difficult I would rate the job as about a 3. Hope this helps anyone who reads this about £70.
