Question about Computers & Internet

Sleeping laptop Please, help me! I was working with my laptop, until my battery was discharged. After baterry "died" I plugged my notebook to charge it and turned it on, but nothing happened - just black screen. When it has happend to me before, I just disconnected and reconected battery, and ewerything was O.K., but this time it did not help and I have been trying it many times since yesterday. Notebook seems to be runnig, leds are on and harddisc makes some sounds, but it looks like if it was in sleep mode. How to wake it? THNX Tom

    thnx angel thing,

The model is GX600PX, year 2007 (I think)
I have tryed it before, but it didnt help. When I turn it on again, I can hear fan and harddisc working, I can open DVDrom, I can hear it readin DVD, but I still see just black screen - nor BIOS seems to start running. As I have already written, when it happened before, removing batery helped - but not this time. :-(

Hi tom,
what I suggest you is to keeping pressed the power button until you hear that the machine is completely off.
turn it on again and tell me what happen. if you don't mind could you please tell which model it is and the year?
my first guess is that the ram that control the BIOS might be damaged, but to restore it, a cold start should be enough...

Why doesn't my hp notebook charge?

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

My battery dies very quickly

If your notebook unexpectedly goes into Sleep mode while you are using it but the battery charge is not low, you may need to recalibrate your battery. You should also recalibrate the battery periodically to maintain the accuracy of the battery gauge. Follow these steps to recalibrate the battery.

  1. Connect your notebook to AC power and let the battery charge completely.
  2. Disconnect the AC power and restart your notebook.
  3. Completely discharge the battery.
  4. After the battery is completely drained, reconnect your notebook to AC power.
  5. Charge the battery completely until the battery status indicator turns blue.

After charging baterry doesn't hold charge more than 20 minutes.

depending how old your laptop is the batter is on its last leg. What happens is if you leave your laptop plugged in all the time, the batter gets overcharged and begins to die. For the next battery you acquire remember to charge it for its required time then drain it out by using the laptop. This will prolong the life of the battery.
