there is something to checkout for u. reinstall windows xp and do not install any driver just checkout that ur system is running properly or not. if yes then install one driver at a time and check the system that any blue screen appears or not. if any blue scrren appears then remove that driver and go for the latest version of that device driver. reinstall the xp from good media i.e it should contain all the reuired files and dont skip any files from installations.

It appears that you have no driver for your sound system in your operating system. If you have the cds, reinstall your drivers. If not, Search on the net for drivers for the motherboard. Your sound is on the motherboard, thus you will need the mother board drivers and sometimes software for installation.
Something may have happened to knock out the drivers. Reinstalling may fix the problems.
