E173FP monitor - blank with blinking power LED

Don't know what message you are referring to. Which e173fp do you have, there is another letter that identifies manufacturer.

Yes: its an E173FPb.
Manufactured Sept 2004

BTW: How do you take it apart so I can get at the parts ?

thanks..

I removed the back and took an ohm meter to measure the 4 transistors in the high voltage section and one was shorted out. I replaced the 'pair' of transistors (got some from ebay and put in a match set with the same gain of 345). The monitor worked for about a week and now it will power up for about 2 seconds and then shut down.

    What now ?

Remove the stand by removing the screws at the center back.
pry the front and back plastic apart with a large flat blade screwdriver. The front and back snap together so you need to "pop" them apart.

If the monitor power light is on or flashing, but nothing displays, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor needs replaced.

E173fp screen black

The most common problems with these units are caused by bad capacitors in the power supply board. Here is a link to several repair guides that cover the different E173FP models. You can determine which model you have by looking at the last letter of the model name it should either be c, f, or b

My Dell E173FP monitor will not come on. I have unplugged and replugged the cable from monitor to hard drive case as well as the a/c power cord. I have rebooted the computer several times and all I get on...

The dreaded blinking green led without a display, means that the backlight circuit has failed on this monitor. Typicalll the transistors that drive the backlight transformers short out and fail. I have fixed this on my monitors twice. Very common failure for this monitor and can be fixed quite easy if you know how to use a soldering iron and a meter. They even sell a repair kit on ebay that provides parts to repair this monitor. Just go to ebay and search e17fpb repair and to find it. Hope this helps.

Dell E173fp monitor went black and green LED light on power button is blinking. It will not reset.

hughiii, Read page 16 of my fixya profile. There is a response to another E173FP you should read and then do more reading about other brands of monitors with same symptom. Will you be doing the tear-down and inspecting the power supply? After you have done the research (reading) and seen some videos on YOUTUBE, get back here on fixya and let us know what you have decided to do. 12fixlouie

Hello,

The Dell E173FP monitors come in several versions but the problem you have is caused by the same thing, a power supply about to fail. Check our web site at:

On our site click on monitor repair and then the version of the E173FP that you have. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for $30 plus return shipping.

I hope this helps you, if so please rate our solution.

Has power but no display

Do the flashlight test. Shine flashlight on front of screen at angle and see if you can see an image or lettering. If so, it is probably inverter board. Let me know first if you have an image.
