Laptop HDMI fuctionality

My Laptop has an HDMI connection built in and I can hook it up to my HDTV, but no sound comes with the video. Is this the way it is supposed to work or is there some setting I don't know about to make the sound come through? I have Vista Home Preimum 32-bit.

Normally the sound should come out also.Have you tested that CD to make sure that it has sound??? Try some other program to play the CD like DVDplayer or some other player program to see because they have more option to set for sound output.
takecare.

PS3 surround sound

You will need the optical cable. My receiver only passes video through the hdmi. So I hooked up the HDMI cable to the tv, and the optical cable to the receiver. Once that is done you have to go to the audio settings for the PS3 and chose audio through the optical.

You may have to go into the TV setup menu and change a setting for Sound (or Audio) that tells the TV which input to use (HDMI or component) for sound. Usually the HDMI connection will work automatically but if you connect cables to Audio L/R that may override the HDMI sound input.

NO SOUND WHEN USING HDMI FROM PC TO HDTV (RUNNING VISTA)

When using an HDMI to DVI cable their is no audio that comes through that cable. Even if you use HDMI to HDMI most computers only have video output from HDMI. You will have to use a seperate audio cable for you to be able to get the sound to work. Depending on the output you have on your laptop you may have to resort to hooking up a pair of speakers to the headphone jack.

Hope this helps.

How to hook up a hp pavilion laptop to a hdtv

if it worked fine at some point then it should work fine now... i use hdmi to hdmi from my laptop to tv all the time dvi would only cause quality loss.

the first thing i would try would be to change your resolution on your laptop to a couple different settings. a lot of times, if its not set to one thats compatible with your tv, you won't see anything.

if that doesn't work, go to personalization and open the tab that says "connect an external display" and toy around with it. but yeah it doesn't sound like you have any hardware problems there.

hope this helps
