This is the exact opposite problem many laptop owners face. There are a few causes, and a few soloutions.

  1. Remove the covers from the hinges and put a small drop of sewing machine oil into where the 2 hinges meet. Open and close the lid a few times to massage it in.
  2. One of the hinges could be slightly bent. The oil method above will help that aswell until it wears into it's new position.
Try that and see how you go. Do not use CRC or any spray lubricants if you can avoid it. There is a huge chance of some of the spray going inside the laptop.

Yes. Strip down the laptop and screen. The hinges will be exposed and they can be tightened up. Use care because if too tight, they will break the plastic case.

The screen is floppy on my Compaq Presario CQ70 and needs tightening can you inform me on how I can resolve this please ?

Check the screen mounting screws on the back of the laptop near the hinges, make sure they are tight.
If these screws ar tight and the screen is loose then the hinges need to be replaces because there are no adjustments available to tighten them.
Replacement hinges may be available from one of these WEB sites.

THE LID IS LOOSE AND THERE ARE NO SCREWS TO TIGHTEN ON THE HINGES

You do not need to replace the hinges, however your need to remove the font panels of the screen and laptop to remove the hinges. You will see that the pin that connects the top part of the hinge to the bottom part of the hinges has over time moved out of alignment. With pliers and a hammer manipulate the hinge pin so that it is now flush with the hinge itself. You will see that the hinge will then become tight. Then just reinstall the hinge. I just did this and I know it works.

Lenovo Ideapad Y510 Hinge problem

hinges take alot of stress as they have to be quite tight to hold the screen in a certain position, alot of laptops can have over tightened hinges and cause splitting in the housing. Hinges can quite often come loose.
Make sure all screws are present around the hinge area and if you can tighten up your hinges.
If the hinges are badly damage you can buy replacments for a few $ off of ebay
