This is the exact opposite problem many laptop owners face. There are a few causes, and a few soloutions.

  1. Remove the covers from the hinges and put a small drop of sewing machine oil into where the 2 hinges meet. Open and close the lid a few times to massage it in.
  2. One of the hinges could be slightly bent. The oil method above will help that aswell until it wears into it's new position.
Try that and see how you go. Do not use CRC or any spray lubricants if you can avoid it. There is a huge chance of some of the spray going inside the laptop.

My screen on my dell laptop wont stay up its keep on falling

Your laptop hinges have lost their grip and need to be replaced. There isn't any way to repair them. Replacement hinges are available for many models. These days a good place to start looking for them is eBay. Search for "replacement hinges" for your specific model and you'll probably find several sellers. It's usually not too difficult to replace the hinges, although on some brands and models it's easier than on others. They are held to the laptop frame by screws.

Many sites have how-to information or videos about replacing the hinges. Look for new ones on eBay, check out the how-tos and you should be able to fix this yourself. Thanks for using Fixya!

How do you remove the screen on an MD 97860? The hinges are part of the screen.

As with any laptop, you must first remove the casing on the lower half. This will reveal all the internals, including your next step. Youll notice the laptops Hinges are held by the casing. You simply unscrew it, remove it, unclamp it, whatever your laptop does to keep the screen attatched, and unplug the screen.

BUT! You must remove the casing. All laptops are designed to hold one thing by putting together 4 others. Its like a puzzle.

Hope this helps!

How do I take a Toshiba Satellite A25-S307 laptop case apart to replace the hinges?

I guess you are talking about the topcover/screen hinges, this is a very simple job to do.
Have a look here for instructions on the repair of Toshiba laptops and note books.

My Gateway notebook CX2610 needs a new hinge.

bring it to your closest repair shop, but make a few phone calls first to see can they fix it. then evaluate the cost of repair compared to a complette replacement laptop and use the damaged one a a workstation (check your home insurance if the hinge was broken through accidental damage)

My hinge screws are broke on my display on my Presario 730US laptop. I can't find any documentation on how to get to the screws

basically the same way I fixed my daughters laptop. I found 2 screws holding the button cover in place, then gently prying it popped out which gave me access to the screws. The screws on this laptop holding the hinges are torx screws, where as my daughters newer HP laptop was all phillips screws.

Is it straightforward to tighten the hinges on my samsung nv5000 laptop? The lcd won't stand up on its own any more! Many thanks, Rob

Should be, just need to be careful when removing the cover..

The notebook is quite old so you may find the plastic or metal has just worn and the hinges need replacing.

2 options:
1. Buy new replacement hinges.
2. Insert spacers in the hinges.
