Have new Nikon D80 camera which was working OK, but now monitor only works in playback. Have I incorrectly pressed a button or changed a setting to cause this? If yes how can it be restored Many thanks for any help. Terry O'Keefe

    Hi Ekse,

Thanks again for your quick response, sadly
this other reset has failed to regain the monitor screen for shooting!

Do you (like me) begin to suspect that a fault may have developed?

    Regards Noment

Heres how to reset it

RESET Find the two buttons with green dots next to them on the top right of the D80. They are the +/- * and AF * buttons. Hold them both down for a few seconds. The top LCD blinks and everything is back to normal.

    lets try a nother reset

turn the camera off, and press the reset switch.

  • Ekse Apr 13, 2008

i supose the resets should have enabled the screen if there was a setting set to disable it.

It does start to seem like a hardware fault and I would recommend geting it repaired or looked at.

if you dont know where to get service there is a service finder on the front page of fixya just under the top experts.

Apparently there was something seriously wrong with your camera, which has now fixed itself. Nikon didn't put the LiveView feature into the their DSLRs until the D3 and the D300, which were released after the D80. The more recent D90 has this feature, but not the D80.

I have a Nikon D80 and one day, I suddenly couldn't take pictures. When I turn my camera on, it automatically blinks the Err message. My shutter mechanics work fine, it recognizes my lenses, and playback...

Had same problems. The shutter is faulty although my D80 only registered about 2,000 shots.

Get it fixed at Nikon Service Center. It's your only option. Cost me $120.

Monitor display has switched off!

Having received no response in over a month, I assume this is no longer a problem.

Nikon D90 Image playback Mode

Hi - My D80 allows the length of time the the image displays to be set using the menu system. You shouldn't have any trouble setting this. Mine can be set from 5 sec to 10 minutes. Lookup Monitor-Off in your manual.

I'm unable to get a full size image on my D80's monitor.

You must have accidentally hit the Thumbnail button while viewing photos (the one with a magnifying glass and 4-way arrow). Press the Playback Zoom button (bottom one with just the magnifying glass) to go back to single frame view. If you keep pressing the Zoom button it will zoom in further on the image you are viewing, and you can use the arrows to move around in it.

There is a message in front of my picture on the monitor

When viewing pictures in playback mode, simply turn the index finger dial (up by the shutter button) and this will change the 'mode' in which you view the pictures and should eventually get you to a setting where this information disappears.

Photographs not being displayed

Do the pics show when you press the playback button? Does the menu display? If the display works, then check the menus to see whether image review got turned off. If the display doesn't work, it needs to be repaired/replaced.
