Hi

OptiPlex GX270 can be small form-factor, small desktop or small mini-tower. The DIMM slots and therefore maximum memroy capacity depends on the form factor. Double check our OptiPlex GX270 and find memory info below.

Minimum memory

Maximum memory
small form-factor: 2 GB
small desktop: 4 GB
small mini-tower: 4 GB

I have a dell optiplex gx270, tried to upgrade my memory with samsung 1gb pc3200 ddr1 but doesnt work, just beeps on start up.

That is the correct memory module (Non-ECC).

Remove all memory modules.
Insert the one Samsung PC3200 module and start up.
If it doesn't boot, then try a different slot.
If it works ok, then add-in your original mamory modules. If they are PC2700, then they may not work together.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270 running on windows XP pro. It has 2MB RAM and 80GB hard disc drive. When I checked to see if I could run Windows Vista Ultimate, the checker said I could, but might need to...

You'll need to have at least the following specs to run vista comfortable; 1 or 2 Ghz processor 1 or 2 GB RAM Video : AGP with 256mb or more cache Yoy might also have to consider changing your power supply.

Frequent message - virtural memory is low, increasing memory

Many times upgrading the ram amount will correct this problem. You may also upgrade you Video card for one that has a lot more memory chips(Total Ram) on it, since you have a desk top type computer. I have included a link in case you have misplaced you manual to see the original specifications. Ram and Video cards are available on line for such places as : Newegg.com               or            Tiger.com              to name two.
