Can you tell me if this is a genuine Cartier number. I am watching a Tank Francaise on Ebay, there are no papers - but the seller is states that the back of the watch is engraved -cartier-water resistant - swiss made 2301-cc708177. Thanks Chris
NEVER publish the serial # of a Cartier watch !!! This provides crooks what they need to sell a counterfeit, plus the info Cartier keeps on every single watch they sell could lead to you if you bought from an authorized Cartier boutique or the watch was purchased from Cartier. Be VERY careful buying high-end watches off Ebay, TONS of fakes there. If the price seems to good to be true, it probably IS.Google Cartier, find a store near you, call them to discuss yr watch.

mcdevito75 here, The easiest way to check the authentisity of your Cartier watch is by a jeweler, try to find a small watch repair jeweler over a fancy place which may charge you. You can also check Cartier watches on ebay, or simply type in Cartier watch on the search of your computers home page. The jeweler is best though, specially if your not that familiar with watches. the little I know tells me the Cartier name on the face should be Staright all the letters exactky the same (CARTIER) and all the hour and minute markers the exact same.
"The seller states" ? Why did the seller not provide you pix of the back of the watch ? I would be VERY skeptical about this. If you really want a Cartier, you can buy one used from a number of reputable websites, such as TimeZone.com and Chrono24.com; there are verified reputable sellers there you can buy from. Note the prices on these sites; they are what these watches really cost used, usually a very good indication of whether a timepiece is authentic or not. BE CAREFUL on Ebay ! :(
The only way I know of finding this out is to take it to a Cartier dealer and let them examine it.
I was told by one jeweler I took an forgery of an expensive watch that it is common practice to destroy any forgeries, so unless you are prepared to loose the watch (is it working OK?), then it might be a risky option.
If you bought it cheaply, then is unlikely that it is genuine (I picked up my forgery in a jumble sale rubbish heap).
The top button is for chronograph function and puts the chronograph seconds hand in motion. The bottom button is for resetting chronograph seconds hand to zero. Do as follows: 1) push the top button once- seconds hand starts moving, 2) push the top button once more- seconds hand stops, 3) push the bottom button once- seconds hand returns to zero. You can repeat as many times as you like- seconds hand will allways start the countdown from zero. Depending on what movement your watch has(mechanical or quartz), there can be more variations, but the basics are as described. If you need more info, supply full info of your watch(make, model, numbers, etc.), please. Do not forget to rate, please.
