High definition audio device

I have Vista running and my audi device shows that all is well, but I do not hear any sound at my speakers nor when I insert headphones. It shows the Headphone jcks, but does not detect when plugging in.

To dieter65:
First few basics: Make sure you haven't muted the sound through the system's volume control. Be sure that when you are testing to see what's what that you actually have a running piece of media, e.g., that you know works and should be producing detectable sound.

Make sure everything is plugged in and powered on. Also, unplugging and restarting the audio devices will often reset.

Check device manager for the sound device(s) (My Computer > Properties...) and see if it is showing an error on the driver or the hardware.

If no other obvious solution, attempt to update drivers and make sure they are current. Since detecting the type of equipment you have, and its numerous technical specifications, can be quite difficult, it may be easiest to use a site that will scan your system and determine the updates needed. Three available sites: www.driveragent.com, www.drivers.com, and www.drivershq.com. You may find this more helpful than trying to search for one individual driver, as that can be very difficult. If none of these things helps, please post back as to the outcome of the above. Otherwise, thanks for rating FixYa!
Guest: You should probably post your issue as a separate problem of its own, as this is not the same as an inability to use your sound equipment. But you most likely will want to locate a program to help you discover the password. One simple thing to check, if you are the only one who uses the PC, would be to make sure to try twice - once with caps lock on and once off. Many password issues end up being a matter of unintended capitals.

Hmmm...passwords are usually kept safe elsewhere..try the hint on main panel

as to the sound issue, go through control panel, and see how that fits for you..

Speakers not working vgn

A couple things to try: First, attempt using a set of headphones to verify if the problem is the same. Second, open the device manager and expand 'sound, video and game controllers' uninstall the problematic device and redetect the device. One more thing you may try is going to Sony's website and look under support for the newest audio drivers for your system.

Which operating system are you using?
When was the last time the audio was working?
Who is the manufacturer of your computer?
Do you see the Volume sign on the right side bottom of the computer?
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers?
Did the computer went through the automatic updates? Any idea? If you want us to take the remote access of the computer and then try resolving the issue for you then reach us hnetworking.com and live chat with us over there.

Before going to any shops, here is a suggestion that can't hurt anything.
Go to the Control Panel and click on Sounds and Audio Devices. On the Volume tab at the bottom, you will see "Speaker Settings". Click on the Advanced button. Change that setting to "Stereo headphones". You should hear the sound only through the headphones then.
