First, lets make sure your Calendar is properly synced. The process is the same on both devices.
Go to Settings, then open Mail/Contacts/Calendars.
Next, select Add Account and Gmail. However, if you have already added your Gmail account, then instead of Add Account, choose Gmail from the account list.
Toggle the Calendar switch to On.
Otherwise, add your Google account information and a description of the calendar, and ensure that the Calendar option is switched on. Syncing will begin when you next open the Calendar app on your iPhone or iPad.
If you create a calendar through google you ill be able to add that calendar to your iPhone and iPad through the default calendar app, you just click calendars and select your google calendar, process is the same for both iPhone and iPad.
costs nothing: just need a gmail account to create the google calendar. you can update from any device and it will show up on the others as well
Download google sync and that will sync contacts calendar and notes to outlook and when you sync with iTunes it should copy from outlook. You might have to select outlook as a source in iTunes though.
When I migrated from my Palm Centro (best smartphone ever) to my current BlackBerry, I did the following:
1) Export Palm contacts from the Palm Desktop software to CSV (comma separated values or tab-delimited text) format.
2) Import the CSV file to your Google Contacts account.
3) Wirelessly sync Google Contacts to your new phone using the free Google Sync app (link below).
4) Verify data was transferred appropriately.
Google Sync works with iPhones:

You should be able to follow the same process for your Palm Calendar by exporting your Palm Calendar from the Palm Desktop software to a file (save the exported file to your desktop, or an easy to find location on your computer), then import the Calendar file into a NEW Google Calendar, not your primary calendar (in case there's conflicts or problems, you can delete the secondary Google calendar without losing your primary Google calendar items). Google Sync should allow you to choose more than one Google Calendar to sync with your iPhone.

In order to get your calendar from Palm to iPhone, you first need to sync your contact from Palm to Windows Outlook and then select the option "sync calendar from Outlook" in iTunes, once selected all your details would be in sync.
You can transfer your contact list, but not your calender. Here are the steps to take to successfully transfer your contact list from outlook 2000 to the iPhone:
1. In Outlook, export your contact list as a Comma Separated Values (Windows) file 2. In windows accessories, launch Address Book 3. Import into Windows Address Book the file you created in step one 4. Now back in iTunes, sync your iPhone contact list with Windows Address Book
You contacts should come over intact.
Sorry, but there is no solution that I know of to import Calendar events.
