Red power light on our 3-year-old Actiontec router

The power light on our 3-year-old Actiontec GT704WG router/gateway suddenly turned solid red rather than green a few days ago. Verizon, our DSL ISP, simply said that it "went bad" and of course tried to sell us a replacement. We have temporarily borrowed something from a friend to use until we can decide what we want to buy. But I hate to spend $100 right now if there is any chance that ours is salvageable. I have seen other people with similar problems post them online, but have yet to see a clear resoluton. Can anyone help?

If the power light is red, it means that the router is already defective.

You can still try to reset the router by pressing the reset button for 10 seconds then power cycle it.

If the power light is still red then you will really need to replace your router.

I upgraded the hard drive ram and OS on a 3 year old macbook core 2 duo. Now it won't connect to my wireless network. It will connect to wireless network at the local coffee shop. I have tried rebooting...

All you need to correct is entering in the WEP key for the wireless network- you will connect, but will be unable to browse wirelessly otherwise. The WEP key is found on the bottom of the actiontec- unless you changed it to something else- at which point you would need to log into the modem to find out your WEP key.(192.168.1.1 on a working computer in internet explorer/safari/firefox, un/pw admin, password or admin, admin; wireless settings)

Power light is red

Power light being RED indicates that the Router has gone bad.
Try to push and hold the reset button for a minute and check if it works.
Else time to change the router

When power switch is turned on the Power light is rapidly flashing & the 4 Ethernet lights are flashing. The box is Actiontec GT704wg

I do not have a solution to the problem. However, I am having the same problem. This morning the Actiontec GT704WG power and ethernet lights were rapidly flashing. The modem was non-functional. I could not even connect to the modem through the browser to see if I could find a problem.

The problem lasted a couple of hours. Then all of a sudden the modem started working again. I won't be able to tell if the problem recurs until I restart the modem. And if the problem does occur again, I won't be able to connect to the internet.

Actiontec (GT704WG) Router wireless access point problem

first of all try to turn the router of, wait for atleast 5 mins and then turn it on, if it still doesnt work,

click on start on the bottom left of ur screen

click on run

type cmd and click on ok

on the black screen type ipconfig

look for ethernet adapter local area connection

take down the default gateway written ther it is usually, 192.168.1.1

open internet explorer, type these no.s on the address bar

it will ask for a username and password, if you havnt changed it

it will be
username:- admin
password:- password

then click on wireless setup and c if wireless is turned on or off, turn it on if its off and then click on apply

if its on already, turn it off and turn it on again

check if this works. else we will have to reset the router but then u will loose all the settings on it done by your isp (if any)

After several years of service, now my Actiontec

electronics like these usually have a reset button behind them, try it. If not, it could be a problem of age, since staying on 24/7 for years really wears electronics out.

Power Light Is Red, Internet Light Is Green, Other Lights Off

Check cable connections.

Try unplugging router from power for five minutes.

If that does not work call Internet Service provider to check if there is a problem with their server.

Actiontec wireless router

This is a Wireless Gateway not a router. Although the Actiontec website says that it uses NAT firewall like a router would.

If you do not get any green lights this usually means the wireless gateway is broken. Try plugging it into power but not the modem. Wait a few seconds. Are there any green lights?

If so, then the gateway is not configured correctly to work with your modem. You may have a smart modem. Call your ISP, for help.

If not, then it is probably a bad gateway. You can try to connect to the configuration web page that comes with the gateway. OR Power on the unit while holding down the Reset button for a minute. This will reset it to factory defaults.
