My son was playing his PS3 for an hour or so. I went and turned it off for him when he decided to leave the room. I pushed the ON/OFF button (on the left side of the TV) and realized I had the remote near me. I then pushed the power button back to ON and then used the remote to power on the TV. There was a multi colored image of my sons PS3 paused game (which was only on originally for about 30 seconds), all fuzzy, and blurry just slowly appearing around the screen in various positions. I can hear things fine, just cant recognize anything through the huge mess that bounces around the screen. I had turned the power off for 2 days and that same exact pause screen comes on when I turn the TV on. Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated....

Sorry, I think I have to explain it a little more. THe image stays on the TV after the PS3 is off. When I turn on my TV (without having the PS3 on), the same PS3 image just floats around the screen. When I try to go to the TV menu, an equally muddled screen comes up. It's all yellow and pixelated and fuzzy and garbled. So in essence, I cannot see any "real" images. Thank you for your help and thanks for answering the question so fast initially.

1 - Turn on TV and set input to port being used.
2 - Make sure PS3 is connected via correct cable.
3 - Power on PS3 via power button and HOLD IT for 5 seconds (release after the second beep). It should automatically configure your PS3 to the TV's native resolution for all settings.

Ok so a few people had this problem and so did I. Essentially you hook the PS3 up to your TV over HDMI, and you get a signal, but it’s a black screen. I had been waiting about a week to get my HDMI cable in the mail from MonoPrice and when it finally got here and I hooked it up, and switched on the PS3 I was pissed.

After some reading I saw the suggestion that worked for me:

Hook the old connection up, in my case that was composite, in addition to the HDMI connection between the TV and PS3

Turn on the PS3, let it boot up

OPTIONAL: If you have no video, hold your finger on the Power button for 10 seconds, you should hear two beeps. A normal power-off is only 2 seconds or so, but if you hold your finger there for 10 secs it causes a hardware reset which should reset your video output to the default composite cable.

Go to the System Settings > Display settings, and change the display to HDMI

Switch your TV to the HDMI input, accept the display changes.

        Unhook the old (composite) connection.

After much worrying, the steps above fixed my problem and I was off the races. My first impression of the interface running at 1080p on my Mitsubishi WD-65831 was “NICE!”… I’ll post my BluRay (Crank) impressions soon.

Update #1: This update is long overdue — this post is a few years old and there have been almost 200 replies below with folks running into the same issue. I’m going to try and summarize some of the other things that have worked for people incase the above doesn’t do the trick:

Problem: No matter what you do, you cannot get video output OR you get it, but loose it after a few moments/secs/minutes.

SOLUTION: More than a few times I’ve seen this caused by cheap HDMI cables that are not allowing the television and PS3 negotiate a secure HDMI connection OR your TV/PS3 just doesn’t like the cable. I recommend Amazon Basics HDMI Cable for $5 or something from Blue Jeans Cable (make sure you get the right length).

NOTES: In cases where you are using HDMI-DVI or an HDMI hub or some other piece of equipment in the connection chain, try and rule that piece of equipment out first before getting mad at the PS3 or TV. That would be the easiest way to start troubleshooting.

Problem: Video output is corrupt (weird artifacts) or discolored or screwed up in some weird way.

SOLUTION: This sounds like damage to the video card in the PS3 and likely needs to be sent to Sony. There are a few commentors below that reported this issue.

Problem: I’ve tried everything and cannot get video output.

SOLUTION: Very similar to the one before, this sounds like your video card might be toast and your PS3 needs service from Sony. (I’m assuming you have tried literally everything else recommended).

Playstation 3 just went black and cant shut off with power button

Most of the times, you're going to find that this is due to over heating. If you've been playing for a while, shut down your Playstation, and let it sit for about 1 hour. It's best if the room is cooled off as well.If the room is hot, you may want to put a fan blowing toward it, or turn up your Air Conditioning.Check the back of your unit, and make sure that all of the cables are plugged in. What you're going to want to do is take out each one, and blow the inside of the ports with compressed air.

To play it safe, take out the Playstation's hard drive, and place it back in.Once the 1 hour is up, and the Playstation hasn't been running, turn it back on, and see if everything is working. If it is, you're good to go! If it isn't, you may want to consult with Sony.

How do I get a stuck disk out of my play station3? It will power up but when i hit the eject button the standby button turns red. We think there are two disc stuck in there but we cant be sure.

I have seen several suggestions at the playstation*com PS3 forums in the past, such as:

| Zr0_C00L wrote:Try turning it off from the back,
| then hold the eject button while you flip the back
| power switch back on. Worked for my buddies
| when his died (good thing too, it was my game
| in there!)
|
| i too did the same thing and it worked for me.
|

This one with multiple discs jammed it sounds like it may apply to you:

"If anyone is having any problems, this is what worked for me. What is more amazing is that my son somehow managed to force 3 discs into that tiny slot...no idea how he pulled that one off.

So after two hours, a pair of tweezers, a fork, and a butterknife, I decided to try one last thing before giving up. I put the PS3 on its nose, disc tray down, held the eject button while it was on, and pushed a disc in and out of the drive. This caused whatever was in there to finally 'catch' as the drive had been trying to force everything out. After 2-3 minutes of play, a disc finally poked out. I pulled what i thought was one and two discs came out. I set it back down flat, tried to put a cheap DVD in (didn't want to test it with a $60 game) and it seemed something was still in there. I hit eject and out came the third disc. I put the DVD in reluctantly and the PS3 took it and loaded it right up. Unbelievable. After all this abuse, it's apparent these things are built like tanks."

You gotta love children.
Hope that helps.

Creda Night Store Heater model 79154

The dial on the wall with 1-24 on it, with the red pins, is the timeswitch to turn the heater on for night-rate hours (when the electricity is cheapest). Hour 1 is 1am --> Hour 24 is midnight.
Set the red pins to turn the heater on from 11PM (23) to 7am (7). The 'on' symbol is normally a '1', with off being '0'. Otherwise, on can be symbolised with a staright line with circles on it, while off is like a little barrier-arm part up.
As for the knobs on the heater, one is for the amount of heat which goes in (how much the heater 'charges'), and the other is for how much it lets out.
Genrally in winter you set the input (nite-store, second knob) to full (6), but in spring or autumn you may reduce this as required.
The other knob (room temp) is for how much heat comes out of ther heater. If you work during the day, you will want to conserver the stored heat in the heater.
Turn the room temp knob down to about 3 when you leave for work, and wind back up to 6 when you get home. This will stop all the heat leaving the heater during the day (and maybe use less power to recharge at night).
Good luck with the time switch. Check your night-rate hours on your power account.

I Was playing cod5..then my ps3 randomlly went off..the red light started flashin..i pushed the power button..it makes the noise as if it was going to go bak on..then goes back off..help plz!

If you were playing for a couple of hours, then it may have overheated, in which case, the PS3 would automatically turn off so it doesnt get damaged by running hot. So then it wouldnt let you turn it back on because its still hot.
