My DVD player does not recognise regular DVD's. I get the meassge "Unknown disc. Please, check disc again" and it spits the disc out. This happens with brand new DVD's and old ones. I've tried cleaning the player which has not made any difference. I reinitialized the whole sytem back to factory defaults and one dvd played, but I tried another and nothing again, went back to the first one and again nothing. This doesn't happen with DVD's I've recorded myself which play fine, so it's not the player itself but some sort of random setting that I can't figure out. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The player detects that the discs contains unauthorized copies of movie titles.
The disc is with a new format which is not yet supported by the player.
Some newly released Blu-ray titles in the market apply new disc
format which did not exist when the player was manufactured. This leads
to playability problem with these discs. This is not a defect of the
player and can possibly be solved by firmware upgrade.
The Philips technical team is constantly working on the firmware
development to enable the player to play such discs. Installing the
latest firmware in your player helps to ensure optimal playback
performance. Please visit the support website of your player regularly
to check out new firmware release.
Before you update, read the Firmware Upgrade Readme File on the
Software and Drivers page. It contains information on playability
resolution on discs of particular movie titles.
If the latest firmware is installed in the player and only one disc
can't be played, there may be some problems with the disc. It may be
Another possibility is that the lens of the player is dirty. Try
cleaning the disc and the lens with a lens cleaning kit which is
available at electronics stores
If the disc that you bought is a bluray disc it will not play on a standard DVD player. But if you ended up with the regular one it should work unless there is a glitch in the disc, if that is the case return the disc.
Problem may be reset needed, or lens need cleaning, or dvd recoreder worn out. Reset is pull the plug from the wall for 5 minutes. Turn it back on after reset to load firmware again, may work after that.. TDK makes lens cleaner. LG uses fan so, dirt can get into dvd recorder lens. If the tray moves out wiggly, laser assembly may move wiggly too. Replace dvd recorder which is a dvd+-rw regular ide unit from computers.
