Not working I am not sure what the problem is, but its when i turn the laptop on it doesnt work. the only thing that works is the power light it goes on and then thats it, the light stays on, but the monitor and laptop do not do anything. the monitor stays plain black and thats it. i tried taking out the battery, and putting it back in, but it didnt do anything. It hasn't been a yr. since I had this laptop and one day I'm just doing my school work and the thing just stops working. I shut it off and when I turn it back on the light comes on but I get a blank screen. I hear the fan and everything but the mouse and keys doesn't work. I took it to Best Buy and they said there's nothing they can to because I don't have the serial number which rubbed off. I had a Dell before for 2 yrs and never did they put the serial # in ink that can be rubbed off! I have received no help from Best Buy or Gateway. They both refuse to help me because I don't have the serial number but yet I'm covered under the man. warranty and I have the original receipt. Can someone please assist me. Thanx

My laptop had been working the night before last. I did not have the power cord plugged in and it had died overnight. So when I plugged the cord in to turn it on, the lights came on but the monitor just stayed black. To me, it seemed like it thought that it was still closed. I have shut it and reopened it several times and still nothing. I have also taken the battery out and put it back in and that didn't do anything either. Today, the laptop is dead so before I work I plan on putting the cord in and leaving it off so it can get a full charge for when I get back.

    Somebody please help.

Do you have the original box? The serial number is also on that.

I actually figured it out. My mom has the same exact laptop as me and my bf took my hard drive out and put in hers and put her hard drive in mines to determine whether or not it's the laptop or the hard drive and it was indeed the hardrive. My mom's hard drive started up fine on my laptop. No, I didn't keep the original box I didn't think a serial # would rub off! Unfortunatly, most of my info. couldn't be restored. I had to buy a new hard drive and load everything all over again.

The problem could be one of the following:

1. your battery is dead or is not recharging.
did you try turning it on while the A/C adapter is plug to the wall and the laptop? some laptops will work with just an A/C adapter even if the battery is low. If it works with the A/C adapter then you need a new battery.
2. your monitor may not be working
try hooking up a regular monitor to the video port of the laptop.
If this works then the monitor needs to be repaired.
3. there is something wrong with the motherboard
We need more information to narrow your problem down.

Do you have a floppy drive? What operating System does your laptop have Windows Xp , Vista, or another?

I turn on my Laptop and the fan will spin and the Hard disk light will turn on as well as the power light (obviously) But the Hard drive doesnt spin up and the screen stays blank no lights no nothing i...

Remove all of the ram, turn the laptop on if it does not beep you have a bad motherboard. If it beeps replace the memory and remove the hard drive turn on the laptop and see if it posts. If it posts without the hard drive then the hard drive is bad. Otherwise it is probably still a bad motherboard.

My toshiba satellite laptop hasnt been turning on for ages and charging doesnt work, its not even charging! What do I do!?

Hi friend, this could be due to bad battery. Just remove the battery and connect the power to the laptop and see whether it works. If it works without battery, then replace the battery.

As i turn on my laptop everything works except there is no display . before it happans sometime and when it turned on it works well. as i put it for 1-2 months after that it get started with display but...

Hi ,
The best possible thing which you can do right now is to check few more things ....As the problem doesnt have much to do on.

Try this::
1>Try to Notebook adapter to a different power outlet.
2.>If still doesnt work you can try to connect an external display us.
(if the external display doesnt work might be other issue but if the display works you have take it to the shop where they can work on this.

Hope This will work.
God bless you.

My fujitsu A3130 screen doesnt turn on. the only thing it does is that the 3 lights in the top right corner turn on and off.

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad.
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

My Toshiba laptop will not turn on.

this could be a number of things. the first thing to check would be the lcd inverter. to check this simply hold a flash light up to the screen while it is powered on and see if you can see anything. If not the next thing to check would be RAM. turn off your laptop and remove 1 stick at a time, or replace with a known good stick of RAM. If one stick is bad it will cause your video to not work. If replacing the RAM doesnt work then it is probably your video card which is part of the motherboard

HP Pavillion dv9005us screen stays dark

Lets start with the power, make sure it is charging by looking at the ring on the side that lights up when the power cable is plugged in. If this is on, then make sure the light on the front of the laptop is on. If it is charging and it is detecing power(2 lights will be lit) then you are okay with power. If the lights are not turning on, then it might be your charger. This is rare, but its worth a try. Get your hands on another identical one. Make sure the Watts line up or else you might blow something out. If it is not your charger, then it is probably an internal part such as the power plug or the motherboard. In either case, unless you really know what you are doing, then you would simply need to replace these. Before you order a new one online, keep reading.

[skip this part if your power is not working]
Pull out one stick of RAM, then try to start up. If this doesnt work, then try the other stick(put the first one back in). If that doesnt work, then try the hard drive. If this doesnt work, then try the wireless card an any other attachable devices(that connect directly to the motherboard). If this does not work, then the problem is in your motherboard and you will probably need to replace it.

[If your power is not working and/or it looks like you need a new motherboard, read this]

Be sure to contact HP first, they are doing a recall or as they call it a "service enhancement" to some of their malfunctioning laptops that are having motherboard issues. You might want to research what the service enhancement covers first. This will be important when dealing with the representative. Also make sure you try a lot of things with fixing it, even if it seems rediculous such as cleaning out the fan. The more it looks like you tried to fix it, the more likely they are to service your laptop under the 'service enhancement'.

Here is more info on the service enhancement. Be sure to read as much of it as possible. Sometimes the representative on the phone will try to say it isnt covered beucase it doesnt match the symptoms exactly. Try to show them as much as possible that it does fall under one of the defects listed and they will most likely fix it. This is a one time shot though, be sure you dont screw it up!

Not working

press f8 when you hear the beep, that should bring up a menu that will allow you to choose your boot up, select safe mode, that will bring up windows in safe mode, this is just to see if it will do anything if now reinstall windows, if that does not work you have a video card problem, if it is still under warranty get it fixed

Hi, Try running you laptop with the battery and the AC adapter. If by plugging in your adapter there is no light indicator likewise or no powering up, then presumably there is a problem with the power supply circuitry in the motherboard. Normally the laptop should work with just the adapter, just the battery or both the battery and the adapter. If it will not perhaps your best bet is to seek professional repair service since this would require opening the motherboard. In most instances, this involves an smc fusible link, regulator transistors or even just cold solder or loose connections. Hope this be of some help/idea. post back how things turned up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
