Your sound card and m,odem is having a conflict. check the configuration of the sound card and modem. when the computer searches for a soundcard and doesnt find one, it automatically gets the modem settings. now your modem is being used as a sound card and not a modem.

The 633 error is a connection problem that appears every time you try to use the modem on your computer.

It states "modem is already in use" and prevents you from accessing the Internet.

This problem mostly appears when a device with incompatible drivers has conflicts with the modem driver on your computer system.

The major software that causes this error is the Palm Pilot Software.

With some simple troubleshooting steps, resolve this modem communication error.

Shut down all currently running applications and restart your computer.

Press "F8" repeatedly before Windows begins to open the Windows Advanced Options Menu.

Scroll down and select "Safe Mode." Press "Enter" to log into Windows Safe Mode.

Safe Mode is used for troubleshooting and repairing system components.

Click the Windows "Start" button and select the "Control Panel."

Double-click "Add or Remove Programs" to open the programs window.

Click "Program and Features" (Windows Vista users) and select "Uninstall a Program" to open the programs window.

Click the incompatible software (e.g., Palm Desktop and Synchronization Software) and select "Change/Remove."

Click "Yes" to confirm and uninstall the program from your computer.

Restart your computer normally to complete the process.

Hope this helps

ZTE HSDPA USB modem seems to install OK on DELL inspriron 6400 running XP but will not connect to internet and always gives an error message saying 'cannot connect modem is in use or not installed...

Start by checking the status of the modem in device manager, right click my computer and select manage, then on the left side select device manager, on the right side look for anything with ! or ? mark and look for your modem.

My modem is not functioning

Uninstall and reinstall your modem driver.
• Click Start -> My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware Tab -> Device Manager
• All items in Device Manager are listed in alphabetical order.
• Select and click on Modems.
• Right mouse click on your Modem
• Left click on Uninstall
• Restart machine and test.
If you receive some errors like
633: The port is already in use or is not configured for Remote Access dial out.
678: There is no answer.
680: There is no dial tone.
777: The connection attempt failed because the modem on the remote computer is out of order.
Then you can use RegInout to fix such types of errors.
Hope it might help you.

Get error 633

Try to install Avira Free antivirus and Malwarebytes antimalware. Update and scan. Or you can try to install hijackthis to view running processes in your system.

Or you can try to take out the harddrive and scan it to another computer with a good known antivirus.

Modem in use

Try the following:

-Open the Control Panel
-Open System
-Click on Device Manager
-Click on Modems
-Highlight and right click on the listed modem
-Select Uninstall

Close out anything open and Restart.

IF (!) Windows is cooperating, it should 'find a new device' and reinstall the Winmodem (it's only software and a little telephone line matching).

If Windows fails to recognize the 'new device,' you will have to manually reinstall it via the 'add new hardware' path in the Control Panel.

As with any Windows stuff - rotsa ruck!
