Question about Northgate (STAX2517C2) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Video cards I have an Nvidia 6200 OC in my Northgate, but when I try to upgrade to a higher AGP card I get shearing/tearing/ polygons in the video image. For example, I tried to install an GeForce 7600 (AGP 8x/4x, 512 MB) but the card wouldn't function properly.

Did all that already (drivers updated regularly, have 500 W power supply). I think it's because my AGP slot aperture is maxxed at 256 MB, that 512 MB is too much for my motherboard to handle. Thanks, anyway. Reebu.

First, make sure that you have a power supply that can handle the card (400watt+). Next, make sure all the motherboard drivers are up to date.

Also, make sure to download the latest drivers from Nvidia's Website.

Hope this helps!

@rick_pere159

The reason for this is that your AGP video card only support DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.0 (pixel shader and it's operating at 2133 MB/s max - this is how fast it can fill up pixels in a video-game). The reason Windows is rating it low is because Windows tests your card on how many pixel it can shade in a 3-D graphics environment - since VGA operates in a parallel simultaneous transmission, it can only occupy 1 lane with a transfer rate of 2133MB/s at max - which is not bad with a subscore rating of 2.5 which is usually sufficient in the desktop graphics and 3?D graphics categories. In order for you to get a 3.0 and above rating for the video card, you must have a GPU that supports D3D (Direct 3D) v10.0, and pixel shader model 4.0.

Take note that the higher clock speed and pixel shader version of your video card, that faster it will get in 3D acceleration - thus higher video card rating.

Hope this information helps.

Upgrade the existing graphics card. GEForce 4 MX440

Yes you can upgrade the card. For information regarding video card refer to website belwo

You can purchase teh AGP video card for the computer with higher memory.

Currently your video card is with 64Mb, try for 512MB or higher version. Do not go for PCI Express or PCI video card. The computer will support only AGP.

Oc a nvidia geforce 5700 ultra need info

Hey,

Do you want to overclock the 5700 ultra? Its a old card and the performance wont get much better, instead I would suggest upgrading the video card to a newer one or the whole computer.

The nvidia 7xxx series fits into a AGP slot I would recommend that, its alot better but upgrading the computer would be even better.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

GRAPHICS CARD

That motherboard and videa card connect using the AGP standard so you are quite limited to what video cards you can get without upgrading the entire system. Also, since your system is that old getting a modern graphics card will not help much as the processor (CPU) will limit it greatly.

nVidia has not released an AGP card in a few generations but they did have some back with the 7600 AGP. ATI released an AGP version of it's last generation of cards with the HD3850.

I personally think you are wasting your money and should consider upgrading your entire system if you are planning an playing any games. I would suggest getting the cheapest AGP video card you can find say a GeForce 6200 or Radeon X1550. Don't spend more than $50 or $60.

Remember that it must be AGP to fit on your motherboard. Another thing to consider is that any AGP video card you buy for you current system will not work in any new computer.
