Run the scan disk with the 'recover missing broken files' (it's the longer slower option) and when done, YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR FOLDER VIEWING OPTIONS and uncheck the box that hides the protected files (the one you never dare uncheck." well, uncheck it after you the disk scan and you may find old broken files wich you can then just delete.
Once deleted, quickly go back and check the box that hides the system files ..... quickly because you don't want to forget and end up not realizing you are deleting the single most important file ... destroying your computer.
You can do it safely on a portable drive (know that if you totally screw up something, you can reformat the whole thing ... and lose the data, but save the hardware.
Or do a complete reformatting (slow) of the flash drive if you don't have any data you need still on it.
click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you could see a yellow question / exclamation mark? ! or a red X
you will need to update/reinstall drivers
right click to reinstall drivers
if you can see your usb drive but its not working
ports (com&lpt) right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems for a computer and its parts
