Question about Audio Players & Recorders
The following is if you feel comfortable to work on your reciever.
Before replacing the volume control, go to any local electronics parts supplier and get some circuit control contact cleaner.
Disconnnect the AC cord of the reciever, open the reciever and get access to where you can spray some of this in to the control to clean it. After using the cleaner rotate the control back and forth at least 20 to thirty times.
It is recomended to not get any of the cleaner on the circuit boards if possible. With normal electronics there is no danger, but it can promote the accumulation of surface dust over time.
If the cleaner does not do the job, then you will have to replace the control. For this you would have to order the original part from the manufacture, unless you can retrofit a generic type varible resistor in to the set. The problem with retrofiting is that you will have to be able to match the resistance, characteristics, and mechancial mounting and fitting the knobs.
For the cleaning of the control or for replacing it, I would suggest having a service tech do this for you unless you are experienced in this type of work. It would be safer for you, and there would be less risk of damaging something.
