Cannon PIXMA MP520
Problem: Error code 5010 "printer error has occurred. Turn off power then back on again. If problem persists see the manual." there is nothing in the manual about this error and it comes up everytime we turn it on.
I had this problem with the ink carriage jammed at the left hand side of the printer. I operated the lever in a hole on the top left hand side and eased the carriage along to the middle and pushed it back onto it's runners. All OK now.

The 5010 error indicates a scanner error. The scanner unit cannot detect the home position, or the scanner unit warming-up is not done properly at power-on. On the LCD, "Scanner is not operating correctly." is displayed.
The 6100 error indicates a logic board error. The check sum value is incorrect in the ROM check at
Fixing these errors is more expensive than replacing the printer. Sorry.
Try unplugging printer, leave for a few minutes then re-power up. Unfortunately, if you have already done all that, it is probable that your Canon printer is in need of servicing by a service professional. The support page at Canon USA's website, for this error number ( 5010 ) indicates that that is the option to follow. It further states that you can get support by email (e.g. to ask Canon about this error) by using the form off http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=SupportMailWSSSAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=13800#
Error Code 5010: Canon recommends resetting the machine. Unplug the power cord for 10 seconds. Then press the power button to turn the printer back on. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.
1. Turn off the printer (MP 830) or other
2. Disconnect the printer from the power outlet (totally unplug the printer)
3. Wait for 1 minute - not less than that.
4. Plug the printer back in to the electrical outlet.
5. Turn the printer on
Hello, The error 5010 refers to a scanner issue, make sure all the connectors are seated and all flat cables running to the scanner unit are firmly seated, turn printer back on and the error should clear. I hope this helps.
Turned it on, off many times as instructions suggest,
etc no dice. Reinstalled software, did everything including giving it a few taps.I was very seriously ready to buy a new one and trash this one, even checking flyers. I read where so my are having this same problem.
In my anger I started pushing all the buttons randomly and suddenly the green light stayed on.
Voila the crazy thing works fine again. Must have reset the glych somehow ?(I have no idea how)
Give it a try before giving up, who knows!!
Yes, same thing happens to me...Error code 5010...and flashing green and orange...alternating lights. I was trying to photocopy (in basic black, not colour). I had a few pages to copy. I got this 5010 Error code after EACH copy! I had to turn off the printer after each copy and then turn it back on for the next copy. That's not the worse of it.....once I turned the printer back on and hit copy again...the printer took a VERY long time to scan the item for the next copy. It took me a good 40 minutes to copy 15 pages. Sooooo irritating!!!!!
Anyone know what to do?
I've also had the paper jam on me tons of times. I am really disappointed with this product. I would not recommend this printer to anyone!
