Today a technician fixed the lower spinner arm and I asked if that would solve the problem of water build up in the tub and water leaking from the bottom of the dishwasher, only to find out that I also have to replace the water valve. I spent $200 today to have the spinner arm fixed and now they want to charge me another $220 to fix the water valve. I could buy a new dishwasher for that amount of $$. And it's only five years old. My question is is the water valve something that I could fix myself. If not, is there a less expensive alternative such as dealing directly with Frigidaire. Thank you.

The 'flat black round rubber' part is a non return valve so that water can't flow back washer to spinner, or spinner to washer. That part needs replacing. These machines are not available to us in North America, but this link should work well for you.
Hello. The lower spray arm screws down onto the center, round, plastic part (spinner) that has threads on the center portion. It's very loose and spins easily because it uses the water spray to drive it. At the top of the threads, there will be a flat piece of plastic. Set the spray arm down onto the threads. Hold the flat plastic area that sticks out above the arm with pliers. Spin the spray arm counter-clockwise while holding the spinner. It will thread itself down about a turn or so. Snug firmly--DON'T OVER-TIGHTEN the spray arm onto the spinner. Remember, it only uses water pressure to spin so it doesn't have to be "gorilla tight"! I hope this helps you!
If your drain is not high enough the water will siphon out while filling. Check your owner's manual for correct height, usually about 39 inches from ground
1) the water level in the tub is insufficent. It should be level or just above the heat element. If not at that the level as long as water pressure to the dishwasher is good the water inlet valve that the water supply connects to is bad
2) the filter inside of the pump is clogged and water is having a hard time getting into the pump to circulate. This link http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/M0203021-00006.png shows where the filter is (item#6) to get to it unscrew the tube on the top of lower wash arm(not shown is the drawing) remove item#2&36 then item #4 to get to the filter
if water valve needs replacing its part#99001359 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store or online at; repairclinic.com searspartsdirect.com appliancepartspros.com apdepot.com assuredparts.com
residue..... check lower spinner arm and clean any bits from insideit by back washing with water, also check the pump inlet and filters.....
as for soap still in container, does the soap recepticle door open... if not just place the required amount of detergent on the lower half of the door..
If the door does open and there is still soap ing the recepticle there is definitely a water problem...
you can also try to remove both the upper and lower spinners and run the dishwasher for a couple of minutes to flush out any debris or buldup inside the lines.
A good quality dishwasher cleaner may also be wothwile trying....
If the machine functions properly when you add water, then it is likely there is a problem with the water supply. Start at the valve under the kitchen sink. First I would turn that valve off and remove the water line. Then turn the valve on slowly. Use a small bucket or a large cup to catch the water. You should also have a lot of towels on hand. If you are not getting much water through it, you may need to change that valve. If you are getting a good flow of water through it, inspect the water line checking for crimped or crushed parts. (is the line copper? braided steel?) Reconnect the water line to the valve and disconnect it at the dishwasher. Now flush water through the line. how is the flow? Lastly inspect the water inlet valve on the machine. I found a walkthrough for that at http://www.easyapplianceparts.com/repair.aspx?appliance=dishwasher&part=dishwasher-wont-fill Actually, you might want to check that first. It may be as easy as cleaning a screen. I'm a plumber, not an appliance tech, so I tend to take a global approach to water supply. Best of luck Mike
1. No waterMake sure you get water to the dishwasher. Check to see if the water shut-off valve (located under the sink) is open. If you get water to the dishwasher, but there is still no water inside during the fill cycle, the problem might be with a faulty water valve (located at the bottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side), in which case replace the water valve.
2. Not enough water If there is not enough water, the dishes would not get cleaned. This could be caused by a partially closed water shut-off valve (located under the sink), or a faulty dishwasher water valve (located at the bottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side).
3. Clogged spay arms There is usually two, sometimes three spray arms in a dishwasher. Make sure there is no debris blocking the holes inside each spray arm.
4. Water temperature is too low To get the best results, the water has to be at 120 degrees Fahrenheit when entering the dishwasher.
5. Not enough soap If you only fill one part of the soap cup, try adding soap to both parts.
6. Smoky film on dishes and glasses This problem occurs due to excessive calcium build up inside the dishwasher. Try cleaning you dishwasher using a dishwasher cleaner.
This dishwasher does not feed water to top and bottom arms at same time. It starts with bottom and then after awhile it switches to top and then cycles. If water comes out arms but arms won't turn, check all holes in arms. It's the water spraying out these that causes arms to turn. If arms spin freely by hand, it's a plugged arm or holes in arm or insufficient water in tank. Being that it only sprays 4 inches suggests a water level problem or possible mineral build up restricting flow.
decrete, you want to get down to the chopper and screen. If the screen is plugged up with gunk there won't be enough pressure to reach the top spray arms. Check out the posted pics. Remove the lower spray arm. Rotate the rear feed arm to the right until it unsnaps from the tube going up the back. See the 4 torq screws holding the filter on. Remove them. Lift the filter up. Now you will see the chopper inlet cover. 1 torq screw holding it in. Lift it up and there's the chopper and screen. Catriver..post back
