I have had the same problem occur today...red shadows and the red convergence will not move left or right to realign. I noticed your solution of replacing the convergence board assembly. Is this the same as replacing two stk392-150? Does this avoid the desoldering and resoldering? It sounds like the stk392-150 are about the same cost as the board. thanks

Re: board assembly or stk392-150
That is correct. If you replace the entire assembly. No hand soldering is required, but you might still have to manually adjust the convervenge after replacing the assembly.

The tv have a convergence problems,it is dead.Tv have colors lines like R,G,B mis alignments, have colors pictures shadows or 3D pictures look alike?Yes,than the tv convergence board it is dead. The tv convergence board must require replacing 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all of it resistors too.To fixed the tv convergence board to solved the tv convergence picture problems. The shop will cost u like $300-350 for parts and labors.
Ur tv have a convergence problems,it dead. The convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead. All these parts must be change to get ur convergence back to normal. The shop will u $300-350 for parts and labors.
It sounds like a Convergence problem--go into the customer menu with the Hitachi remote and select convergence---look to see if one of the colors will not move---you can only move red or blue-----if something will not move you have a convergence problem.
Let me know here what you find and I can tell you what is involved if it is a convergence problem.
You do have a failure in the convergence circuit of your set. If you are good at soldering you can replace the IC's yourself. They are on the large circuit board on the left side of the set looking from the back, and attached to a large aluminum heat sink. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, I reccomend removing the board and sending it to PTS corp in Indiana. They are pretty reasonable repairing boards, and a lot less than buying a new one.
hi. this will be an easy fix for you if you are a good solder. you will need to replace the convergence chip that is located on the PC board(main). this chip is damaged and it has failed due to this damage that has occurred. click below for your new convergence chip(stk).
No there are no quick fix options for this fault. The convergence amplifiers operate similar to a high power audio amplifier, so if there is an impairment anywhere in the system, it will result in distorted audio, or in the case of television convergence amplifiers, one or more colors won't align. The convergence power pacs need to be replaced and the out of tolerance precision resistors located near the power pacs need to be carefully checked and replaced as necessary. And the power supply fuse links to the power pacs checked and replaced as needed.
It is also possible that there are root faults that cause the amplifiers to go bad which include bad connections or a bad digital control module. This repair is possible for anyone having basic electronics knowledge and soldering skills. After the above repairs are performed it may be necessary to perform the static convergence realignment procedure using the outer cross hairs as you mentioned, and realigning them.
Right now I am troubleshooting the same problem. If you go into your picture menu on your tv go to manual red convergence and hit right. It should give you 3 sets of cross hairs and your red will be able to move up and down and from left to right. If yours is anything like mine your red will not move from left to right but will have no problem going up and down. If this is the case, chances are that there is a resistor blown on the board attached to your tube that controls the red (far left looking from the back). If you don't feel good about checking resistors and diodes on that board DO NOT start taking things apart. repair costs will only get bigger the more you take apart.
This is common in those sets. One of your convergence IC's has stopped working and needs to be replaced. The convergence IC should be replaced and the convergence circuits realigned by someone with experience in Sony projection sets.
