Unless you can find a button on the remote you have that saves the settings, I'm afraid so.

Convergence adjustments are located in almost all sets that have that in the main menu--and are adjusted with the original remote---if try that and will NOT adjust--you have a convergence circuit problem.

A brand and model number (not indicated here) would be needed for more of a answer or help.

Red blue green convergence out of sync how to access control without remote

Sorry but you need the original remote to access the convergence settings. Google your model and I'm sure you'll find a site where you can purchase a new remote.

Hello, my tv looks 3d

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

I had the same problem this week. I tried the convergence thing but it was impossible to fix. I still needed the repairman. He changed two convergence units ($325, parts and labor). Then the tv was still doing the same thing. We had to adjust the convergence and now everything is perfect. You will need your converter

On the Akai PT429HD? No, you need the original Samsung, as only it has the button to save convergence settings. I got mine for ten bucks. Without doing a proper convergence your set is kind of wasted, so that ten bucks is worth it. I see the price of this remote has spiked lately, so I'd start with ebay first of all.

If you've tried my convergence procedure on the Akai remote and can find a button that saves the settings (the cursor will blink and then center) then you don't need to buy a Samsung one. The only universal remote that has a chance of doing the job would be more expensive than the real one.
