Whn you try to power it up does it attempt to power on before going red or does it just stay red? If it just stays red then its definitely a case of faulty power supply board. The easies way to resolve this problem would be to replace the power supply board, which can be obtained for about 50-75$ from shopjimmy.com. So let me know if you wish to fix it yourself
Check the power source?Yes.Try tv unplug, replug it back an hour later. The tv now resetting it back to factory setting. The tv should work now. Not,than the power supply board is dead. That the board, where the power a/c cord plug into.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacemrnt.
I had the same problem with mine. I took the back off of it and found 3 blown 1000uF capacitators in the power supply. I replaced them and now it works fine. Cost me about $1 compared to $100 at the shop.
I don't think the Akai remote is designed to work with cable or satellite service. I have to use both remotes & I have Direct TV.
Try unplugging the TV for a few minutes then plug it in and try the remote again. I had the same problem shortly before my Akai LCT2721AD quit working altogether. Three 1000uF capacitors blew in the power supply. Bought 3 new ones and replaced the blown ones myself rather than pay over $100 for a new power supply. Works fine now.

I would bet on the power supply....these (and other Akai LCD) are notorious for filter capacitors. Look for electrolytic capacitors with a dome-like bulge on the top of them. They are usually located at the top of the power supply board where the power output lines run out.
