the psp is charging when you see the red light instead of the green light.that is the only indication that your psp is charging.try changing the battery.if your battery is new, try bringing it to a nearby technician to have a look at the psp's charging port
believe it or not, if the psp works you can play it with out a battery using thee charger. Try that and see if it works at all. If it does then you may need to replace your battery, or leav it and let it charge for about 5-6 hours.
If it's 4 months old and it does not work at all you should still be under your manufacturer's warranty.

I'll give you the quick story of what they did. They "bricked" the PSP. This is a term used by all PSP hackers. When you try to hack the system so you can play pirated games on the system, you will occasionally get an error that causes the system to be "bricked". They use the word "brick" because once it happens, the PSP becomes as fun as a brick. You really can't do much about it. Your best bet is to call Sony and see what they can do for you. If you know anyone else that knows what they're doing with PSPs, you could always ask them to fix it for you, but Sony would be the easiest. They won't do it for free, but they will fix it for you. 1-800-345-SONY
