I bought the ICs and did the work myself and now my picture looks great. In order to do this project, you need to know how to solder ICs but I had not done much soldering before but found all the tutorials I needed on line. This was not an easy project, it took me about 3 hours to complete and the hardest part was getting the old ICs off of the heatsink, they were baked on good. I got my soldering iron and solder from Radio Shack. I used the de-braiding solder to remove the ICs and it worked great. I took pictures of my project and will make those available.

I bought 2 sets of ICs (4 total) in case this happens again, plus the parts I bought at Radio shack(thermal grease, compressed air, solder ******) all came to about $80 total. The estimate for service was $100.00 just for a tech to come out and diagnose the problem and he said over the phone that is would probably be about $500 to fix it. He was a real nice guy and said since my set was 7 years old it may not be work fixing since the color gun could go next and that could be another $600.00. In addition, I would have to take my huge TV to a service shop! He recommended buying a new set since my set was older, so I canceled the service call and I decided to try the repair myself since if it did not work I would go buy a new set, but now it looks great! I also took the front off the set and cleaned the lenses and that really made it a much better more crisp picture. Basically, I feel like I just got a new TV for 80 bucks! It took about 4 days for the parts to show up and after a little practice soldering I just dove into the project. I am really excited that this worked!

It sounds like your blue convergence ic is getting weak you need to replace the ic's STK392-110 and you should replace both because when 1 is bad the other will go real soon. They are inexspensive at the sight I posted and you will also get free tech online support if you purchase them there.

Ultravision Digital TV has shadows and vertical

I believe it is either interference or a convergence issue. To fix an issue with convergence try to find a convergence setting in the menu. If thatr doesn't work try to clean your projection lenses with a q-tip and alcohol.
Good Luck.

Hitachi 53UWX10BA HDTV with convergence problem for blue

No there are no quick fix options for this fault. The convergence amplifiers operate similar to a high power audio amplifier, so if there is an impairment anywhere in the system, it will result in distorted audio, or in the case of television convergence amplifiers, a color won't align. The convergence power pacs need to be replaced and the out of tolerance precision resistors located near the power pacs need to be carefully checked and replaced as necessary.

It is also possible that there are root faults that cause the amplifiers to go bad which include bad connections or a bad digital control module. This repair is possible for anyone having basic electronics knowledge and soldering skills.

Replace the convergence Ic's with a kit that is available through your local parts distributor

You must replace all resistors in the kit
If you are not good at soldering and de- soldering have a local tv shop do it for you

Good luck
