Hi,
the switch has nothing to do with ethernet card...thats only a wireless switch.. do the following:

Click start >>> Type CMD in the search box (if Vista) or Run >>> then type CMD and hit enter

Then type IPCONFIG and hit enter.. look for IP address and default gateway.. it should be something like xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. If you are getting any other IP address other than 169.xxx.xxx.xxx then the winsock is corrupt.. try this then

On the same CMD window type netsh winsock reset catalog hit enter. Then restart the computer. If you have some other IP apart from 169 then the computer is conencted to the router. DEFAULT GATEWAY will show some numbers (that means the computer and router are connected) You will ahve to call your ISP then.

Also, try re-installing the network card driver from support.dell.com and entering the service tag.

You look at whether the Wireless Switch is off / On . The switch must be in ON position while connecting Internet .

If the laptop says limited connectivity, usually it is not getting the right IP from the modem, or the modem is not connecting to the Internet

Dell Inspiron 1525 not connecting wirelessly to Sky broadband

If your wireless router is configured with SSID, encryption, MAC address filtering (if enabled) etc. then the Dell wireless card needs to be configured with these settings to allow it to communicate with the wireless router.
Check the settings on your PC's wireless settings, and configure the Dell the same way.

Cutting down power to my dell laptop while left for downloading

Donot worry the computer and laptop are build to work 24hr, and here the people doesnot know that putting off and on the pc always is bad , coz this with time destroy the cpu or board, putting off and on the laptop effects the heat pipes on the laptop and this leads with time to cpu damage or board damage.
Turning a Windows system "OFF" (from 'Start> Turn Off Computer...' button) is not the best way to put your system away for the night (or extended periods) and forcing a shutdown with the power button is NEVER a good option; only a last resort.
It prevents Windows from 'housekeeping' system files to get ready for the next start-up, and may, over time, cause file corruption; slow down; even break Windows.
Best Regards

Unable to connect to internet

Hi.

What do you mean by "reloading Windows"? Did you repair it? Maybe did reinstallation? If so, you may need to install drivers for your Ethernet adapter. You will need to specify Ethernet adapter manufacturer and model (if it is onboard adapter, then motherboard manufacturer and model), so I can provide you with the download link, in case you don't have the drivers.
