Pc works fine but has black screen. if you hold a flashlight up to it you can see the screen a little.

If you can hold a flashlight on an angle and somewhat see what's on the screen it means the back-light of the display is dead. LCD actually don't light up on their own, so the back-light is what provides the brightness so you can actually see what's on the LCD screen.

The back-light will have to be ordered specifically for your screen, as they greatly vary in size and shape. You can either replace the back-light yourself, which is a very technical job, or have almost any computer repair store do it for you. If your computer is still under warranty this would be classified as a manufacturer defect.

could be a number of things. Lets try to narrow it down.

When you turn on the computer do you see the hard drive light blinking at all? If not, i am leaning towards a failed motherboard. If there is a blinking or solid hard drive light try to hold a flashlight up to the screen to see if you can see any images. If the backlight (or ignitor) for the screen goes out, many times you can make out the screen if you hold a light source close to the screen.

Try to adjust the back-light on the screen by pressing the FN and UP arrow to increase the light.

If that does not work then it means that your back-light on the screen has either failed completely of works for a couple of minutes and then it goes off. You need to have your screen replaced with a new one.

victorash02, Is screen black n blank, or just black? Do flashlight test! Yes it could be both! Most likely problem with unit's internal "switch-mode-power-supply"/"CCFL inverter supply". You or technician will need to investigate for probable cause of black screen of death. Need a little history of unit! Did it work just fine 2 weeks ago? How many "ON" hours of use on the unit? When was it made? Did you PROVE that PC not cause and works ok? Get back here with more info so we can help.

Take a flashlight and shine it on the screen. If you can see an image, you probably need to replace the power inverter board. It supplies power to the backlight.

yes your lucky thing is this problem is LCD CCFL lamp worn, change a new lamp should be fixed.
hwo to change CCFL lamp, step by step:
1) buy a CCFL lamp from eBay, reference:

2) take out LCD panel
3) open the back light cover and change the CCFL lamp, reference:
