Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

My toshiba satellite a105-s171 will not boot up. it acts like it is starting but after the windows xp screen a blue screen flashes with white lettering but does not stay long enough to read and then the toshiba screen appears followed by a black screen with white lettering that apologizes for the inconvenience and lists options for safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration and start windows normally. i've tried them all and the computer just keeps recycling to the mode options screen. please help.

You need to do a recovery using the recovery console. There is an option during startup, if you are running XP or later, to press F11 for emergency recovery.

Press F11 and choose the option to recover and backup.

This will backup all files and programs currently installed on your computer.

After the recovery process finishes, you will have to go through the process of setting up your computer, like you did when you first bought it.

After you are all setup again, it is a good idea to create recovery disks under the 'Start' menu, 'Recovery' option.

Windows is corrupted , Since you have no idea what software/malware caused that it will be extremely difficult to fix it blindly.
The best way then is to reinstall, Go into Safe Mode and recover all your files then boot from your recovery disk and during the install procedure, select the Full Format option.

try holding f2 or f10 at boot, right when you turn it on, and hold it in until you get into bios or a boot selection screen. then you need to set the cd drive as the primary, only boot device for the time being

Boot Problems

Hi,

PXE means it will only boot while connected to the network,

You need to change the bois From network boot to Hard drive boot.

The system doesn't see a hard drive inside,

it thinks it is booting from the network only,

it boots to a server like this.

It is called a dumb terminal

Gateway desktop xp starts then flashes blue screen for split seco

Sometimes they make the recovery disk with windows on it, but not the programs that start windows during the boot up phase. One of the three main files that boots into windows is corrputed or your Master Boot Record is missing. There are two options you can try without the OS disc so lets see if one of those will work: 1) boot up and press F8 to enter safe mode. Once in safe mode sometimes you can also get into window because just the minimum of the program is loaded. F8 Safe Mode>in windows>click start>accesories>system tools>system restore. It will allow you to restore your computer to a prior date before you have problems. 2)if that don;'t work then F8 safe mode and while in safe mode choose Last Known Configuration. Kinda works the same way as restoe but you don't have to be in windows to do it. If those don't work then get your hands on a windows xp disc, anyone's will do, don't have to be yours. Let me know how it goes.
Rate this solution. You can also find out about this at support.microsoft.com>help and support>type in Windows XP boot disk in the search engine. If those don't work let me know and we'll move on to phase II.

what you are describing is the blue screen of death, meaning theres a hardware or software problem, try to boot into safe mode and perform a system restore, if that doesn't work use your XP cd, let it load the drivers and the ask it to fix the existing XP installation, anything that you have saved in my documents should be safe and the problem should be solved. If the blue screen reappears then you have a hardware problem

it is a fatal error mostly occured in windows like xp. it is also the prevention of disturbing with the memory.
we have some tips to recover from there. first you have try to boot as last known good configuration option in the windows startup option. (you press F8 key, when the computer boots up).
if it is not working, try to boot in safe mode.
if it is also not possible, you have to go with your xp cd or operating system cd. first boot with operating system cd and go for the repair option to recover your operationg system.

Try going to Start - Run.
Type sfc /scannow in the run line and hit enter or click ok.
A dialog will pop up that says "Windows File Protection"
Allow this to run and insert the Win XP CD if requested.
Hopefully this will resolve your issue!
