Your wireless passcode will be located in your router memory. You must log into your router and visit the link for wireless settings. It should be under security features in wireless settings.

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with a 2wire modem/router combo. The wireless internet connections work flawlessly with all wireless laptops, phones, games, etc. I cannot access the internet on the pc itself...

You may have a problem with your IP and DNS settings. Please use the instructions below

Go to Control Panel>Network Connections and select your local network.Click Properties, then select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).Click Properties. You will see a window like the one below. Please make sure that the settings are all set to automatic for your IP4 and/or IP6 connections.

If that doesn't work, please try to renew your ip settings.

This can be done with the following steps:
1. Open cmd.exe
Windows XP: Start - Run - cmd.exe
Vista/7: Window Button - type "cmd.exe" - Enter
2. Type "ipconfig/release"
3. Type "ipconfig/renew"
4. Wait for connection to establish.

Cable and wireless question

Not possible, since the "input" to the 2WIRE modem is a 4-wire telephone-line, not an 8-wire Ethernet cable.

Instead, spend about $40 to buy a D-Link Wireless G modem, and connect its WAN port to the cable-modem, and connect up to 4 Ethernet cables to "wired" computers, and configure the "wireless" component of the D-Link router.

Will my modem help me connect to internet on my dsi because i have one and i would like to know if i can connect to the internet on my dsi with it

That depends mainly on your modem. If you plug a DSL from the you DSL on the wall to your modem (which, hopefully, is able to use DSL, not Cable), then you can connect it to your computer (which should usually be using Ethernet).

Having trouble 2Wire 1800hg router and Vista connectivity issues; dropping internet. Any ideas?

It could be a number of things. Most likely is interfearence. It could be caused by a router near your home that in using the same channel.Log into your router or use the 2wire control panel on your computer and change your channel to 11 or 1 .Also mixed mode wireless settings can be problematic.Try using 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11n.   Another cause are 2.4 ghz cordless phones that use same frequency as the router.
Other things can wack it out as well like a microwave or if you are moving the notebook around the house the ductwork in your home could block the wireless signal.
I've had the same trouble for weeks. I broke down and bought a Belkin Wireless N router and had no trouble since.
Sorry for the long winded answer.

I have a 2wire 1701 and its blocking/not letting some programs either connect or update. Help

log into the 2wire with the defalt gateway ip adress to get that go to start and then run type in (command) in the run box or (CMD) same thing when the black box comes up type in ( ipconfig /all) it will give you a network makeup list you are looking for the defalt gateway type in the defalt gateway ip adressa into an internet explorer adress box at the top EXAMPLE (192.168.1.1) it will bring you to the login screen for the router from there you will have to look around and find the firewall and turn it off windows has its own dont worry about the one in the 2 wire im guessing you have dsl the password for the login may be plank it may be admin it may be password it might even be on the bottom of the 2wire itself if you find yourself not bing able to find it put your 2wire molel number and the words defal login in a google search

I have a new laptop which has built in wireless but I cant get it to connect to my house internet. I entered a wrong passcode and now cannot work out how to reset it so i can start again

Vista or XP? XP is the easiest. Click on the Wireless icon in the lower right. click on advance settings>wireless networks and remove all the preferred networks or just the one you wanted to sign in to in that box. VIOLA! start again.
VISTA a little harder. right click on the wireless icon. click networks and settings. in the left side bar click manage networks. Find your network device and right click properties. Security tab to change the password settings.

I was putting my wireless onto the 2wire and everything went to s---, I couldn't get MSN on line, then MSN went away. Then I started to fiddle around with trying to get it back and now I lost my internet...

what is the modem/wireless device you are using.

operating system and name and brand of computer. the msn won't connect if you don't have an active internet connection so lets fix the one thing first.
